SEO Internal Content Links

Just want to know your thoughts on whether internal linking does anything for SEO?

Im just going over the content on my website

I was wondering about internal links in page content.

For example if your on a product page, and it has a relation to another product that you mention is it a good idea to make the keyword relating to the product a link to its page?

and can you go over the top with it and hurt seo?
Does doing that even help seo at all? I think it will be usefull for the user for my particular website.

Many products my company sells have connections to each other, so I could end up with a fair few links to product pages in descriptions....

Contextual links within your site can be some of the most powerful links you've got. Don't over-optimize the keywords in the links, but yes, by all means inter-link your content.

I am a little confused about article formatting for Seo. (Using Wordpress)

Is the article title considered the first h1 tag? If so then I should not use any h1 in the article body?

What about sub headings, should they be h2?
Sometimes h2 seems too large but is it better for SEO?

Is it OK to use h3-h6 or they diminish their SEO value as get higher?

Maybe there is some good guidance on this I can be directed to.

The article title is the first h1 tag. From there on in use h2-6. As long as there is only 1 h1 tag you should be ok but as a general rule use 1x h1, 1 xh2, rest h3.

Surely it is 1 h1, then any sub headings h2 then any sub sub headings under the h2 are h3 etc etc?

Create drop down list from main menu of your Product page. Its more user friendly and you having category links on all pages will decrease the bounce rate of your website

Navigation is internal linking and it can help too. Google says, "Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images."

Internal links are very important within a website but having said that, overuse of these causes problems with Penguin. Unfortunately I can (I think!) testify to that.

Internal links when relevant are good for the visitor (help them discover relevant products and navigate a site easier) = it's good for the search engines (better page/site usage metrics).

Have in mind that in some cases this kind of internal links can decrease page/site conversions (more choices = more distraction).

Internal Link is more important part of SEO. In website, every page should be connected by Link. If your home page then you give internal page link. i think every internal page should be given a link which its to connect other website Link.

This is something I recommend a great deal. In any case possible, I am a big fan of internal linking from blogging. With the recent algorithm update it is crucial to make the link building as "clean" as possible.
