Put the keyword in the url, title, meta tag, rename pictures with your keyword and add alt text. Write a good meta description, highlight your strengths, if you have good prices make sure you have them on the display, something that people will want to click.

Find long tail variations of your keyword, this is a decent article:
http://backlinko.com/long-tail-keywords

I keep the text below 1% for my keyword, you can go up to 2-3% if you like though. Interlink similar products with different anchor text.
Write some articles, e.g if you want to rank 'ps3' then write a article on sony and put anchor text to your product page with 'ps3', then write another on games consoles and use 'best ps3' or whatever.
Make sure your site loads fast, search 'website speed checker', get a ssl cert (don't get ripped off), use uk hosting if possible

Thanks,
I'm assuming I should change each title manually and try avoiding duplicate titles (Site Title)?

keywords in url
so something like this
cars
mysite.co.uk/cars-for-sale

mobile phones
mysite.co.uk/mobile-phones-for-sale
?

Hi, SEO is now a range of activities that all need to be done to rank. I will list some below.

Keyword Research: This involves researching your market for short-tail and long-tail keyword terms that your business should target.

Competitor Analysis: analyse your top competitors in Google, Yahoo, and Bing, and monitor any changes to their online strategy.

On-site optimisation: Your page titles, meta descriptions, and heading tags need to tell Google what you’re selling.

Content Management: High-quality and relevant copy is the backbone of your website. Without it, your website will fail.

Link Building: Link building is an essential part of any healthy SEO strategy and easily punished if not done correctly.

I run an SEO Agency helping small businesses, so feel free to have a chat with me I might be able to help you.

1) Make sure your website is as "healthy" as possible - get rid of any duplicate pages, dead links and pages that are too slow to load or behave strangely such as autoplaying video or generating pop-ups.

2) Install free analytics software such as Google Analytics if you haven't already, start digging through the data and find out what are the problem areas of your site, where to people leave, where do people spend little time, and so on. Try and make your site as user-friendly as possible.

3) Make sure your navigation is as clear and easy to use as possible, all the pages should be connected with hyperlinks with concise and tidy URLS, avoid using URLs that are too long or unreadable.

4) Make sure your titles, meta tags and meta descriptions are clear, accurate and represent some of the key search terms you want to target. Consider re-structuring your site if it's unfocused, too complicated or if you have single pages serving multiple purposes. Draw a site map on a piece of paper and get it to be as logical and intuitive as you can.

5) Research. Find out what your customers are looking for and give it to them. Make the most popular areas of your site easily accessible and prominent in its design. Look at what your competitors are doing. Do a report of your goals and targets and how you're going to work towards them.

6) Make sure your site is being indexed by Google's bots. Sign up for Search Console, submit a sitemap, get a robots.txt with any pages you want to exclude. Make sure you understand it all thoroughly, or else you could accidentally block parts of your site from Google.

Don't focus too much on title tags, optimised content etc when you're starting out - make it natural but relevant.

Try and get some links to your 'quality' content by making quality content and then letting people know about it.

First obstacle is getting in Google, which what links will do for you. If it's relevant then Google will handle the rest. Tweaking on a fine level isn't really worth it just yet.

If you have a budget (then PM me) if you dont - then you have to learn how to do it yourself - and you will make mistakes and probably waste countless hours of your time trying to figure out what to do.

1. Keyword Research - find out exactly what people are typing into Google / BING etc.
Then select the keywords that have the highest KEI (Keyword Efficiency Index)

2. Website Audit - you need to match all those lovely keywords with that beautfilly written compelling content you have written.

3. Competitor Research - You need to find out exactly where your competitors are getting all their links from - and then replicate them all - from all competitors.

4. Build Your own links - discover new places to get and build links from

You can do it all yourself manually - but it will take you years and years of effort

VERY good advice here. Research, create, publish, push, link
