I run an online marketing agency in Cornwall - based in Porthtowan. Where are you based?

I have my office above Barclays Bank in Camborne as I find this gives my clients throughout Cornwall a central base to visit me.

can you explain to me a bit about how SEO works. There seem to be so many theories. is it about number of links or quality?

Search Engine Optimisation refers to 'coding' your site properly, so search engines, such as google and yahoo can properly list your website under relevant 'keyword' or 'keyphrase' searches conducted by clients.

To do this, you need to take the following approach:

1. Keyword Analysis:
Identify relevant 'keywords' POTENTIAL customers type into Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo.

2. Coding:
Ensuring your websites 'code' is search engine friendly.

3. Link Building:
Developing quality links from websites related to your line or work or business.

Our approach with every new client is to 'dip the toe in the water' first and then increase your visability as you generate sales and profits from your site.

Good advice from Iain there.

You also need to have site content which contains the keywords and to update the content of your site regularly - this keeps the search engines coming back to review your site.
