I have a set up a word press site and as far as I know I have indexed in google, bing and dmoz. I am also using a free service from attarcta SEO which was free tool as part of my hosting service. I have been told to remove my site from attractaas it does no good !?!?!

I have check my site on a a number of site to see if it has been indexed but 95% say it has not been indexed by any of the sites mentioned above. I have a google and bing webmasters account.

The site is still not completely finished but I want to get the SEO up and ready before the site is fully finished.

What is the best course of action to improve my SEO ??

Don't go live before everythings in place really, its like opening a shop and putting one product on display, as you will fill it up as you go along and then wondering why no ones coming

Depends on how long you have waited, indexing can be an issue, to check just go to google and type

site:yoursite.co.uk

It will list everything Google has indexed

the site will be a lettings site. i still need a few features to be added and the it will be completed. but i want to work on the SEO

is there a site that independently evaluates and analysis your site?

There is a 'review my website' section on this website for members. But there are some pretty great experts on here. Hang about a while and you'll learn who they are and then you can hand 'em over a bundle of cash!

Zono, can you let me know your URL? would be interested to take a peek. Essentially, because you're on the wordpress platform, it makes it incredibly easy to add content, so start writing brilliant content. By brilliant, I'm trying to steer you away from the mundane articles that are just bundles of useless information.

Get yourself a Facebook/Twitter account and start tweeting/updating with interesting info - maybe come up with/pre-empt some good competitions/launch party ideas to attract media attention. If you can get down and dirty with social, then people will link to you - but you must ensure that you are keeping it interesting - and remember, 1 tweet a day isn't social media, keep your finger on the pulse.

So, quick checklist (basic)

- Ensure all title and meta descriptions are unique, around 65 characters or less and straight to the point.
- Make sure your pages have clear headers (do not use multiple headers on your page and spam them with keywords)
- Make sure you have an XML sitemap, having wordpress, SEO all in one is a good tool for this and can also help you with other areas
- Ensure your URL's contain keywords relevant to a particular landing page, but do not spam it, as this could have an adverse effect
- Ensure you have a robots.txt file and that you fix an canonicalisation errors (Google it) - having Wordpress though, I doubt you will have these issues.
- Add good content to each of your pages and keep your blog updated regularly (2-3 times a week), this will ensure faster caching and search engine saturation
- Add social media buttons and share buttons to each of your pages (millions of plugins for this)
- Think about how you can attract links. Utilise PR, Social Media, keep syndicating content persistently. Competitions are a great way to get users involved and attract attention of the media and if you can get links from those heavy hitters, you're made.

This is all presuming you have done extensive research on keywords (generic and longtail), done your competitor analysis (who are the heavy hitters, but more importantly, why?) and set up basic reporting tools like analytics so you can track progress, set goals and analyse useful statistics.

Good luck, you'll be fine

Just go through the following checklist before you go live with your website -

1. Check if all the SEO elements like Title, Metas, Headers, Internal Linking & others are in place for all the pages of the website.

2. Check for your robots.txt & XML sitemap.

3. If you have a Google Analytics & Google Webmaster Tool's account, make sure the code is correctly present on every page of the website.

4. Submit your XML sitemap in Google Webmaster Tools.

5. If you have redesigned your website, make sure all the redirects have been placed correctly especially for all the important pages of the websit.

6.Also, would recommend to have a browser compatibility check done for your website to ensure if it is working properly on all the major browsers.

7. Also, set up goals in Google Analytics so that you are able to track all the leads from the day you go live & not miss on those leads.

8. Confirm that you have good quality content on all the important pages of the website like homepage, category & sub- category pages.

9. Finally, plan your link building strategies to market your website online.

Hope the above checklist helps you go live with your website successfully. All the best. :)

Yes all the above is great info, but what you really need to do if you want to rank well in the Search Engines is know exactly what you want to be found for.. and make sure enough people are searching...

It is ok saying "make sure your title tags, meta tags bla bla are correct and to a certain level of keywords to normal words.. nobody knows the exact ratios for this for every keyword etc..

You need to do this:

1. GOTO Google and type the search phrase you would ideally want to rank for, or maybe a few...
2. See what the competition is like (SPYING) even has far has what there keywords are, title tag says, etc etc, backlinks.. bla bla
3. Goto Google Webmaster tools and keywords section. Look to see how many people are actually searching for these keywords, and use exact settings
4. This will give you an idea of how much work is involved in ranking for your desired keywords.
5. Once you have this info.. then do as stated above :D

SEO is not that hard.. the hardest part is trying to beat the others... this is where good onpage/site SEO and Offpage/site SEO plays it's part

There’s also a lot of misinformation about SEO strategies and tactics. But every business having a web site should make Search Engine Optimization trying to get your site as high up as possible on Google and Bing search-results pages -- a part of their growth strategy. The first step is to monitor where you stand (keep an eye on your page rank with the tools like Alexa). Use keywords, link back to yourself, create a sitemap, make search-friendly URLs, avoid flash and provide images with descriptions, update the content regularly and apply social media distribution. An easy way to direct more traffic to your site is by developing relationships with other sites – so try building links to others.

thanks for all the help
will go through everything asap

what about attracta SEO tools that came with my hosting? I have been told to withdraw my site from it !??

SEO can be done manually or it can be helped with tools (saves you time and money in the long run)
In this order
Keyword Research - Optimise webpages - Audit - then work on off site + social media , Some or all of these seo powersuite tools will help you a lot

I would never set a site live without having the majority of content ready to go. Any potential customers who stumble upon the site and see a half finished website are unlikely to give it a second chance. First impressions last a lifetime and you only get one shot at making one.
