SEO for Dummies? Help!

I've spent the afternoon reading the various threads on SEO and I think I have given myself information overload.. I don't seemed to have either retained or understood much of it!

I'm using Volusion and in the back-end it has the SEO section with the following sections:

Product Name Short ( as per displayed as URL of product page apparently)
Meta Tag Title
Meta Tag Description
Meta Tag Keywords

Could somebody please give me some basic hints and tips as to what I should enter into each of the above sections?

(I'm predominantly selling Designer shoes for women in large sizes.)

Any advice/help would be much appreciated!

Even easier, why not go and check out the websites of some of your competitors and see what meta data they're using?

When on a website simply select the <View> menu at the top of your browser window, then select <Page Source>. It may just read <Source> BTW.

Also if a competitor is performing particularly well, dont be afraid to put their name in your meta data.

So anyone searching for them may well find you too. All's fair in love and SEO.

Do you have any Idea about META TAGS, If Not then just copy paste from others but I don't think it will be helpful....

Ok, for some help, read below:

Page Title

This is the title of the web page. So you want to write what the page is about (for example if this page is about red womens shoes) you call it:

Red Womens Shoes - Then Your Website Name (for example)

That tells people what the webpage is about.

*It is important to include your keywords in the page title for seo reasons*

Meta Tags

People say don't bother with these, but I still do, list the keywords that you are targeting for that page (try not to go above 10 key phrases).

Meta Description

The meta description is a chance for you to entice people into your website, so a little description of what the web page is about.

* Also be sure to include your keywords in this part too.

I hope this helps. I could of gone in to that in more detail, but it would take too long.
