Seo charges how much for position 1

Hi, i do a lot of development for small businesses, never sure how much to charge, its more of an obsession than a business, I have recently built a site which is number 1 on google for the chosen very competitive 2 word phrase. And doing very well on other competitive phrases with commercial intent.

This has taken 10 months for me to do, the site also comes very high for town names and the service.

How much should I charge for getting their phones ringing ?
What charging structure should i use ?

Somewhere between 1 to 1,000,000 :p

You need to figure out how much the new customers are worth to the client and make it both worth their while and worth your while. Most businesses should have some idea of lifetime value of a customer. If they don't, then you need to figure out how to guide them to work it out... Once that's established it pretty easy to figure out what to charge.

How about this - I'd be willing to pay an SEO consultant a % of gross sales revenues if they could consistently guarantee me clicks for my chosen keywords and I paid no money until I saw results.. ok maybe I'd pay a one-off "set-up" fee :)

Cynical... yes... why?

We've had so many SEO consultants tell us they can guarantee this and that and want to charge anywhere from $500/mth to $2,500/mth. As a small business owner, how am I to judge good from bad? I've reviewed each quote and they all look the same - outsourced to India to get a bunch of people who know nothing about my business to write articles, blog & furum posts and so on...

How much I can afford to pay depends on how much new business SEO brings in.

I know there's work that needs to be done, and that SEO takes months and months and that it's a constantly moving target and all... but if someone with good credentials could offer me an "SEO Affilliate" type service I'd seriously consider it.

Practially it may be tough i.e. how to guage gross sales revenues... but it would sure be easier for small businesses to digest!

Hello,

This is a very interesting question. We all know that the results of our SEO takes time like weeks or months. For me if I'm going to hire an SEO company I will prefer a guaranteed ranking service. There are cheap SEO services out there that could help you reach the top page results. And don't go for an hour rate, its not advisable for me (just my opinion).

And what guaratee does the SEO get that you can convert the click to a sale? The only way I'd get involved in such an agreement is if I was a partner in the business and had influence over sales.

How do you judge an Accountant? Plumber? Electrician? An Ad in the local paper? (you do test your Ads, don't you?). Are you one of those who spends a small fortune in local advertising but has no idea what return you get?

Simple fact is, a good SEO doesn't need you... I'm sorry if that sounds arrogant, but the demand is there and as such there is no need for an SEO to take on the risks you require. My ideal client just signs the cheque and lets me get on with it...

Oh, and while I don't outsource the SEO I do for clients, there is nothing wrong, in principle, with outsourcing. Used properly, outsourcing can reduce costs and even if these are not passed on, at the very least, it means your SEO will likely remain solvent... :D

Man walks into a bar and announces "Ok i have a box and in that box is something that everyone needs and wants, i can even go as far as to say you cant live without it and everyone in this room uses it with out a doubt, Would anyone care to put a value on it"
One guy offers £10 which then prompts another to offer £20 but it doesnt take long for one man to ask whats in the box.
The guy opens the box and woe and behold it is empty.
They all start to get angry saying the man had offered them nothing, but the man said he had offered them Air which they all breathe everyday.
But there is no value as it is free anyway
The point is that you can put a value on something with out knowing what it is.
Being on page one position one is great, but if the term isn't as important as you think then any guidelines we give are useless.

Depends on a number of different factors, including some of: keyword competitiveness, keyword difficulty, age of your domain, website url and domain authority.

It would cost nothing to rank first for 'dfiasdfkodsfosd'

It would cost a LOT to rank first for 'lawyers'
