SEO advice

Hi all

I would like to spend some money on SEO and need a reputable cost effective company.

Does anyone have any tips?

I don't have a large budget so would love to hear from someone with good advice on who to use and what sort of budget I would need in order to be ''found'' more efficiently.

Many thanks

    It depends on how hard it is to rank for the keywords you're targeting. It is impossible to give you even the ballpark estimate with the data you provided.

    Hi,

    There are a number of factors involved here, the biggest one is what you expect for your budget and exactly what your budget is.

    As an earlier post explained - it can be 100's it could be 100's of thousands!

    My advice would be;
    a) Look at the industry you are in and who the competition is
    b) tap some of your main terms (or what you percieve to be your main terms) in to Google and see how many appear in the sponsored positions and the types of companies they are
    c) Get a number of real quotes (i.e. not these manufactured bronze/silver/gold packages off a wegetyoutonumberoneovernight.com website) from SEO agencies or freelancers
    d) be realistic with your approach - if you want rank and recognition....firstly it will not happen overnight (especially with a new domain) and secondly be realistic with your budget/spend

    First off, you've made the right choice in asking for recommendations, it makes sense to use someone who comes with a thumbs up from happy customers.

    However, don't just take one persons word for it, ask any company that you are thinking of using for telephone numbers of previous clients and be sure to check them out (yes, I'm aware it sounds a bit awkward but you may regret not doing it in the end). If they are genuinely happy customers then they won't mind in the least having a quick chat with you.

    Costs are more a problem than generally realised. Don't automatically assume that the more expensive the service the better the work and equally don't brush off some of the cheaper end guys as there's likely to be some decent outfits who are bringing in some really good results simply through sheer hard work and determination even if they're fledgling concerns, everyone has to start off somewhere. Try to avoid the "sticking a pin in the Yellow Pages" scenario and help yourself by reading up on seo either through related books on Amazon or by going through posts in our seo forum until you feel more comfortable about what questions you need to ask your seo.

    Last thing, you should expect full communication with your seo throughout the duration of your project and shouldn't be left in the dark with a load of hanging questions. Like everything else in life, work on developing a trustful working relationship with your seo as that's often the best way to get the best results, hopefully leading to a win-win situation for both of you.

    Good luck.

    For obvious reasons, if you have a small budget then I would us it to buy some books and DIY.
    Like everything you do in business you need to be clued up and know what it is your experts are doing is right and proper. Without such basic knowledge you will never be in control and will always be at the mercy of others.

    Others have given some pretty good advice so far, a lot of which I can only really repeat - in particular I would say to be careful if you are working in the 'bargain basement' end - as you may find that you end up paying more in the long run (lots of cheap bills for services that don't really pan out can quickly out-weigh one real-world bill for those that do).

    It does largely depend, as others have also said, on which page(s) you want to rank for which terms/phrases, too.

    A significant part of SEO (certainly the first time it is tackled for a site/page) can be in the initial research to determine the best course of action - so don't be surprised if this is mentioned in a costs breakdown; if anything be pleased if it is as it's generally a positive sign!

    Be wary of guarantees if they seem too good to be true - but also be wary if the SEO is totally non-committal; they should at least be able to give you an idea of what they believe is achievable within your budget and over what time periods - this may be in the form of an educated guess rather than a promise, but they should still be able to give you some info!

    Feel free to PM your keywords/pages/etc for an opinion on difficulty/amount of effort required - if you like!

    What keywords are you wanting to target, these will be the cost factors in your seo campaign. if you wanted to target the word Loan for instance, then your seo budget need to be huge, however is you were targeting less competative keywords, then your budget would less

    @RedEvo

    I just read the page - View on Link building - in your signature link.

    Congrats on a super piece. Really clear and very well written too. I'll be referring people to it from time to time.

    Agreed, interesting reading. I'd better put a link in my UKBF signature. No, wait, that would be a fairly low quality link. Sweet, I won't bother :)

    RedEvo, another thumbs up on me for the article. I understand and do some 'casual' SEO work, if I had an website like the poster above it would certainly make me want to link to it!

    Anyone who hasn't read it and wants to find out more, it's well worth spending 5-10 minutes reading it through.
