Sending Receipt to Germany (EU)

Hi All,

I have got my first order from outside the UK (Germany). Are there any special requirements I need to put on the receipt for my customer? He wants to put the cost against his tax and as I have never dealt with Germany before I dont really know if there is anything I need to look out for? Or do I do things as usual?

If the customer provides you with their VAT number (which you can validate here http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/vatRequest.html) then you do not charge them VAT, but you must include their VAT number on your invoice.

If they can not provide a valid VAT number then you charge VAT as normal.

There are no other requirements as they are part of EU.

All commercial enterprises, inc. sole traders, have to be MwSt (VAT) registered in Germany.

You still need a valid VAT number to put on your invoice. If they can't provide that you charge VAT

Just to clarify. In the UK, I would not normally charge VAT to customers as Im not VAT registered. However, when I have sales to a German soletrader who is registered for Mwst. I have to charge UK VAT to this customer?

No, you are not VAT registered you can not charge the customer VAT.
In this case you would invoice just like you do UK customers.
