I personally wouldn't recommend it.....

I have never sold any services on odesk but I have used them for a few things and I have never really been overly impressed.

You can find some really good individuals at decent prices, but the hassle is almost never worth it.
I would recommend working with someone local for whatever you happen to be looking for.

i've never used odesk before but i only use fiverr it's a good place for beginners. if you offer something great you'll make a very good money at fiverr and it will not take a long time because all offers start at $5. this makes people order a lot of gigs on fiverr.

anyway if you have something good that people will love then go and try

I have used PPH a few times - I was awarded the first 2 jobs that I bid on and completed them with 5-star feedback.

Never been awarded a single job after that - as far as I can see, most jobs that I bid on are never awarded to anyone.

I think the site is 'dodgy' to say the least.

I wouldn't recommend fiverr unless you can provide your service in literally less than 5 minutes.
Even if it only takes you 15 mins to completely fully deliver a service that's only: $4 profit x 4 = $16 profit per hours work.... You can go out and get a full time job on £8-10 p/h and you don't even have to worry about promoting your offer, or refunds, or stars or ratings or re-dos....

If it only takes you 5 mins then that's = $4 x 12 = $48 p/h which is decent if you can get enough sales.

Also gig extras are huge, always offer a 1 or 2 day service for an extra $5-10.

Used it plenty as buyer but never as a seller. Its a commodity market and the labour on there is relatively cheap.

It's true most are at the low end, but I'm seeing people charging $100+ per hour, getting regular work in most categories.

I think most people who've had bad experiences have gone for the cheaper/cheapest option.

I tried PPH a few years back and I don't recall ever finding a job that I considered worth bidding on. Either the competition was too high (your bid got lost in the "I'm the cheapest noise) or the budget was drastically low for what the poster was looking for that it wasn't profitable.

I think I just got frustrated with seeing my profession constantly being undercut and devalued so left and never returned, though ironically I did find a client who was looking for a designer close to their office to work with and since I've been with that client for about 3 years now.

I believe PPH now have changed their model to something a little similar to Fiverr i.e. "I'll do X job for £Y an hour"?

As someone English who can understand clients you would be at an advantage, what services are you thinking about offering? You can usually apply for work at either set costs knowing you can do the job within less time or you can counter propose the hourly rate and also I believe you can set a minimum hourly rate as well.
