Selling through Amazon.co.uk

Hi guys,

I have been looking into selling on Amazon this past week but cant get my head around it:

We sell Breastfeeding supplies, pumps, creams & Supports etc and I am unsure as to what category Amazon would class us, therefore not sure what they would charge us?

We also have a few products where we only make under 20% profit, would it be worth leaving these off?

Would we have to pay a monthly fee as well as having to pay a % per item sold?

The main idea of going on to Amazon in my eyes is to help get our name out there as a recognised retailer. Has anyone had any joy with the service they offer?

Amazon's 20% commission on sales will eat up all of your profit, doesn't sound like a good channel for your business.

You might be able to retain some profit selling through Ebay?

quikshop took the words out of my mouth - Ebay might be a better option for you to start with and is relatively easy to set up.

Besides this you can still run a standard website that links to your ebay pages to make it more user friendly.

Amazon rung me last week to ask me to sell on there and said they would give me no monthly fees for 12 months and just 15% commission with unlimited products, so they do have offers on from time to time?

I dont think Amazon will take 20% from you - might be 10%

Channel Marketing is where ecommerce is heading, a good idea for you is to use groupon - sign up with them and sell daily deals. You should do very well and you wont have to worry about website headaches. (make sure to set your percentage right with the offer)

We all need traffic so just go where the traffic is in Marketplaces.

Amazon will take 15% of each sale and a monthly fee of £25. This is all subject to Vat and as they are registered in Luxembourg, it adds up to 15%.

I'd not consider selling anything with only a 20% margin unless I'd thoroughly worked out the costings and was looking at high volume sales.

The category you'd need to list in would be the baby category.
