For those that sell or have sold on Amazon, would you say price is the most important factor in getting sales?

How did you figure out the best price for your product? Trial and error?

Thanks.

Price and seller reputation.
Regarding price, enter the price that you would ideally be happy with and if you are not the lowest keep reducing the price, if your margins allow you to do so, until you are the cheapest.

Seller reputation is more important than ever on Amazon. Their seller performance metrics are just insane these days, they'll even mark you down slightly on things like receiving messages! You need to be providing the best service at all times or you just won't win the buy box, often even if you're offering the lowest price.

The answer depends very much on what you are selling.

    a) If you are selling a 'named' product that others are selling, then price is a critical, but maybe not the most critical factor. Ink cartridges are a good example. Its not easy to work out who has the 'cheapest' product as compatible products are often offered up under the originals description. Then carriage may or may not apply. What matters to me most is the 'honesty' of the site, followed by the (carriage included) price. 'Honesty' means being able to click through to see the exact product I wanted first time, no fiddles.

    b) If you are not selling a 'named' product, price is definitely not the most important factor. I am quite clear about this as I regularly get orders from customers who buy from Amazon and pay £20 or £30 more for an item that they could buy direct from our own site at the lower price. We introduced a number of price increases on Amazon following their change of policy on pricing equality (Having spoken to a number of buyers about this, they say that 'we always buy from Amazon') and our sales appear unnaffected. What does matter? I think its setting up your product using the right search terms.
