Selling A Website

Hi all,

Could you please advise about selling a website? I'm thinking longer term, rather than now, but would appreciate the advice to aid planning.

In short, the Stamp Out Suicide! website is being well received and I feel it has achieved good things but due to finances I'm having trouble getting it out there and this is proving frustrating because I can see that it is being of help.

My thinking is if I try to sell it I will at least raise more awareness of the site (even if it remains in my hands) and if I get any money for it it can either go to a good cause or help towards training costs for me to work more closely in this area.

Hope some of you can advise.

Theres plenty of places for selling sites but if it's not making money it will need to have decent pagerank/ranking/traffic otherwise probably worthless imho.

I must agree with this comment. Some people have this idea that their website is another Myspace and therefore it must be worth loadsamoney.

If the thing does not make money, and there is no realistic chance of it generating income in its present form it is with nothing.

I can appreciate that.

However, I thought given the nature of the website, an organisation or individual with personal experience in the area might have an interest in it but I am grateful for your advice.

Yes, the site was started in the spirit of altruism (and because I had time on my hands and wanted to use it constructively and do something worthwhile). Good suggestion and so thanks. If an organisation or individual could promote it more widely I'd be very happy.

More content will be added to the site which will be designed to encourage users to promote the site (some have offered donations and to fundraise but since Stamp Out Suicide! is not a charity I've had to decline the offers). This will help greatly.

The number of deaths registered as suicides increased significantly in Northern Ireland last year and I've networked as widely as possible to promote the site. I think it's time to inject a bit of realism and recognise that I can only do so much and if another agency or organisation likes the site and feels that they can do more with it then so be it.

It saddens me greatly as I would like to work more in the area but the doors seem closed and I've limited pull.

Thanks for all the support - it is much appreciated.
