Selling a domain name

I'm just going through some of the domain names that we have acquired over the years and don't do anything with except pay to renew them every so often.

I was wondering is there still any market for keyword relevant domain names and if so what is the best way of shifting them?

depends how good they are. if they're extremely brandable, you have various options. if they're just exact-match domains for seo in medium-competitivity niches, don't simply sit on them, add content too them - get them indexed and acquiring age-based authority, then they'll increase in value like fine wine. have something really cool that people will tweet about etc, then they'll acquire linkjuice and social authority too. maybe they'll even generate a monetary income.

what niches are they in out of curiousity? i'm a site buyer (of established sites, not empty domains)

I always ask this question when it comes to domain names.

How much is my own time worth?

Then i think how long will it take and effort on my part to try and sell each domain.

Then i think how much money i would be happy getting for it. Even if its £20-£50 per domain (which from what you have said above is exceptionally unlikely) then i would rather just cancel them and drop the domains if i had no plans in the next 10 years to do anything with them.

Unless you are exceptionally lucky, you will not sell them for more than the renewal price in my opinion

You will most likely want WAY more than you will eventually get

Holding domains is just an expense, ok once in a while someone sells one for a lot, but mostly you are just paying for something that has no value.

I know guys that sold domains, in the end they got between 10% and 20% of what they were looking for and no doubt wasted lots of time negotiating to get there too..

After Selling a couple of domains in the past here is my 2 pence on this thread

I agree if the domains are not keyword rich end the domain and let it go back to the market

there are lots of changes coming in the domain world with names such as .bed .tech .app etc so if you have a brand and do not want a domain squatter on a niche domain you want or need get in quick as its not a lot to dispute a domain but it is enough and a lot of hassell trying to get your company name off a domain squatter

Very good niche jobs domains are worth 2-5k max " not 500,000k " like someone tried telling me the other day he wanted for one " any more then the above then its not worth paying for it - having said that if you have a mobile keyword rich or up and coming mobile name then hold onto it get it doing something and then wait it out in 10 years could be worth a fair few quid

if you have built a brand around a name then that's a business sale and not a domain sale - some people get confused

Sedo is good for .com's and not .co.uk and as I have only used sedo can't say how good the there websites mentioned are
