Hi. First of all, I'm not sure if this is in the correct forum but I really couldn't see anywhere else I could post.

I'm a self employed plumber and last week I broke my foot leaving me in a cast and unable to work for 8 weeks. I have no injury cover and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company I could sign up to cover my current Injury and for my future employment when I'm back working.

It might be a long shot, but I'm dure I've seen a company advertise this a year or so ago, but I can't seem to find information anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your current injury? Insurance doesn't ever cover existing issues. Nobody would take you on knowing the payout would commence immediately - it's a risk based injury. You would also probably find that any future insurance will exclude any problems with that ankle. It's ALWAYS one of the questions - have you had an accident? If you say yes, they won't want you without a premium load. I've never seen anyone offer cover for accidents you've already had.

You can forget about any cover for this injury
I broke my leg 15 years ago and my biggest fear is a problem with that leg while I'm on holiday and the travel insurance refusing to pay out

Hi @Mickles86 , Sorry to hear of the injury and hope you are back on your feet soon.

There are a couple of insurance products you should consider:
    1. Income Protection Insurance
This type of policy will pay a % of your income until you retire, die or return to work.

Cover applies for both an accidental injury or an illness meaning you cannot work.

As this could be a considerable length of time, the premiums can be considerably high.

    2. Personal Accident and Illness Insurance
These policies will usually only pay for 12-24 months and therefore premiums are much lower than Income protection.

You can also arrange cover on "accident only", so cover is only if you are off work due to an accident (not illness). This would reduce the premium.

Both the above policies will generally only pay once you are off work for at least 2-4 weeks.

As said above, you are unlikely to be covered for a similar injury in the future.

You will need to speak to a Financial Adviser for a quotation in Income Protection. Some may also be able to quote on Personal Accident/Ilness policies too.

For Personal Accident and Illness insurance quotes, we would recommend seeking advice from an independent insurance broker, which you can find on https://insurance.biba.org.uk/find-insurance/ (Unfortunately this is not my area of expertise). Alternatively, you can do it yourself on https://www.comparethemarket.com/accident-sickness-and-unemployment-insurance/
