self employed what am i allowed

hi
i am self employed and would like to do my own accounts,
i have read the replies on other threads for this and i was wondering,
when i do my sa does it simply give me releif for things like my car and percentage of heating etc. that i think i can claim or do i have to work it out
for myself
i am a driving instructor and my accountant has done this the past nine years however i am very quiet at the momment and earnings have dropped to about 6,000 any advice most welcoming

You have to claim the correct expenses on your tax return.

If you really want to do it yourself rather than perhaps see if you can find a cheaper accountant a good starting point is the HMRC website - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/index.htm
