Hi all
I'm self employed but the company I work for is paying my expenses so things like food, hotels, etc. How do I show this on my self assessment tax return or do I just leave this information out?

Many thanks for any replies

Personally I would never ask HMRC in the first place for fear of triggering anything off.

Just be happy with your SE position and take advantage of the expenses you can put through. If HMRC aren't happy with your employment status it'll be your 'employer' who gets hit in the pocket anyway.

Due to the fact I don't take dividends and my employer is based out of Canada they said not to worry as I don't have the option for them to pay my tax etc.

Hello there

The fact that your "employer" is based in Canada unfortunately does not, in itself, take away the PAYE obligations. I would recommend that you suggest to them a review of their UK operation. It may be that registering a UK Establishment with a UK PAYE registration would be appropriate. Alternatively you could register a direct PAYE scheme yourself.

It would certainly be prudent to look into this before HMRC do!

Hope this helps.
