Self-declaration for UKCA marking

Hi.

I intend to produce a self-service kiosks in the UK and I need to have a UKCA marking for it.

As I did some searching, I don’t think I need to have it tested with a third-party trusted body— kiosks fall into the category of self-declare products (Low Voltage Electronics).

I didn’t find any organisation responsible for the self-declared products to contact with. So, is it fine to check for essential regulations, prepare the necessary documents all by myself, keep them for the next 10 years and just attach the UKCA label on the product? Or I have to have it tested by a trusted body anyway?

Thank you in advanced,

Ehsan

Have you asked your insurer

If these are self service to the public and there is an incident then they will be picking up any claim so likely they will have a definition of what they consider suitable declaration of conformity

@Frank the Insurance guy
Thanks IanSuth,

But my question is about UKCA marking and if I have to get a trust body to do it or not.

    Unfortunately, advice from insurers on this sort of thing is not helpful - underwriters are not experts and they're advice would be to ensure your product meets all the relevant regulations. They would usually only look closely into it at the point of a claim - at which point you could be in trouble if your product does not conform to whatever regulations (if any) apply.

    Make sure you have read and understood: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/using-the-ukca-marking

    Of particular note, under the Technical Section it says that you must keep records of
    • "how the product has been shown to conform to the relevant requirements"
    For your own protection, I would suggest engaging with a third party specialist accreditation company to make sure you have done everything you need to.

    Products do not generally fall into a single category like this. In addition to LVD you will need to satisfy EMC regulations, probably product safety if the public are involved, ...

    Last time I looked, when it was EU regulations for CE, you did not have to use a third party but you still need to have all the test results, or at least very good arguments as to why it meets the regs if it does so "by design".
