Hi can anyone tell me what is the best way to get a site listed quickly on Google?

How long has the site been up?

What terms are you looking to optimise for?

The best way to get noticed by Google is high value external links. Getting to the top of a competitive field requires substantial work, you might want to look for an SEO (we can provide this service).

Get a page thats already listed to link to it.

Add everyone to your links page and you'll get added to everyone elses (thats the idea anyway)

Google is a hard nut to crack for a new website because Google in it's wisdom puts all new website's in a "Sandbox" which limits their ranking for quite some time... (many many months in some cases).

Inbound links are probably the best bet for increasing your Google rank (as mentioned above). Good quality links (from high Google pageranked sites) with RELEVANT content (similar to your own or one that specialises in your type of content) are seen by Google to be worth more than links "plonked" anywhere... But as a rule of thumb I would add your link EVERYWHERE you can (Directories etc) because there is no such thing as a BAD link :wink:

I don't know about Google, but I got myself listed in Yahoo within 48 hours.

I simply added an onsite weblog and RSS feed to my site and added my site to my own "my yahoo" personal pages, presto!

Now, don't ask me to explain this for the hard of thinking or techie forbics cause I'm a techie forbic myself, I just followed guidance from my web host.

If you want to get to the top of any listings, it'll all be about links and good and plentiful content.

This might sound a bit of a cop out, but I got my site listed within 10 days. Couldn't tell you how I did it in a technoligcal sense as the host I use take care of the technology and followed their guidance.

I added a weblog and RSS feed and added my own content to "my Yahoo" personal pages, presto, listed.

Getting Listed is easy - even if you only have 1 inbound link to your website then the search engine spiders will find it, the problem is getting a good ranking... The is what SEO as all about.

One way to appear on google and avoid the sandbox is to add it to webit.net.

As and example Quore Business Solutions. Their own site is sandboxed but they appear in Google through us:

Agreed, but initially you've got to get found.

I don't worry the slightest about SEO, I just write good relevant content, often, and let the system do the rest.

From my conversations with other DJ's who spend way to much time worrying about SEO, I'm doing better than them in respect of targetted traffic and the vast majority of my bookings and visitors come from search engines, so I'm doing something right

Most of my search engine traffic comes from Google, yahoo and MSN, don't ask me why because I couldn't tell you, I just work the process.

I can certainly say that since I added a weblog and RSS feed, my traffic has taken a significent jump and I'm starting to generate secondary income from Adsense, which is all to the good.

Thanks for all your replies to-date but since my web designer is taking me for a ride, she is charging over US$120.00 per month and still no sign of it up on the search engines - hence my reson for asking you all here for your obervations. Will keep you posted on situation and again my thanks for your guidance

Hi -

Are you talking about getting it indexed by Google or ranking for chosen keyword phrases?

Unfortunately, if your site is brand new as TWD-Tony pointed out, there is a high chance you may find you do not rank on Google for 6 - 12 months.

But, my advice would still be to keep optimising the site in the meantime however frustrating it may be. Once reason for this is that it needs to be obvious to Google that the site is live and is being regularly updated and that you are working hard to give your visitors good, relevant copy.

This is exactly what SEO should focus on! Though obviously there are a few other technical bits and pieces such as site structure, code, links etc etc.

Is it the site in your signature that is the problem? If it is then you would be right to be concerned as it my opinion it is not optimised.
