Scam letter from "Bibby Financial Services"?

We got a letter from "Bibby Financial services" saying that our company owes £100 to "J & A Wignall".

Bibby are a big company but no one here can remember J & A Wignall or why we owe them £100. The Bibby address is given as some industrial unit in Edinburgh and it wants us to transfer money to a bank account at Barclays.

We are really pretty sure that we don't owe anyone called Wignall money but are nervous to phone or email or anything in case we get hacked by evil teenagers from Russia or whatever.

Anyone had anything similar?

have you googled the company to find out if the contact details on the letter are the actual company details?

Don't be so soft, how do you expect to do business if you're acting in such a way.

Meanwhile, have gone through official bibby website, emailed them. Was just wondering if this was a standard scam that I could just ignore and bin.

oh - missed your reply totally sport - a bit more helpful. Yep, the number and the address are all right but can't tell if the bank account is kosher. The scam may be to use all the right contact details but assume that some will just pay...

anyway - as I said, have emailed the real bibby so will find out soon...
