Sales Agents - Commission Only

From experience I think your going to struggle on just commission only - particularly as web design & seo is ultra competitive.

In the past I`ve recruited bellers from People Per hour with on a peppercorn basic with commission.

But you have to manage them well to get results - particularly lead quality and volume and getting them revved up with regular contact.

That's a job in itself.

I used to recruit people from 2 hrs to 8 hrs a week - this seemed to pick up freelancers who wanted to top up their salary and worked well.

And many then carried on outside of those basic hours effectively on commission only.

Basic was about 7 an hour and I paid 50 quid a warm lead and 200 per closed sale by me.

Sale was worth between 1 and 2 grand to me.

At worst I'd get a closed sale every 15 hours of calls 1 in 3 warm leads - so I was giving away a good 4-500 quid per sale which was still very profitable for me and worthwhile for them.

I had one guy for about 18 months who would in theory just do 3-5 every friday and get 1-2 leads every week - and the conversion was almost 1 in 2.

He was a management consultant but he just liked doing it - I ended up funding his buyout of a struggling firm.

However in the end I moved away from telemarketing and spend more now on lead generation from other sources - cold email, sms , facebook, linked in - my cost per sale is nearer 200 which is a big saving and its much less time for me to manage it.

What is it you're actually looking for them to "sell"? Is it that they get clients for your service, or just they get appointments to get in you in front of prospects?

If it's the former, then it sounds like they are going to need to have a reasonable knowledge of website design and SEO before they go out and sell. Obviously, they don't need to know everything, but they're going to be able to chat about SEO and website design in some detail because of questions that prospects will throw at them.

So, if you're going to want commission-only sales people, you've got to give them a very good package.
