Sainsbury's has suspended its online grocery service, meaning thousands of customers will not receive their orders on Wednesday and Thursday. The company said a computer fault was spotted on Tuesday and it has been ringing people who booked a delivery to offer them £10 in compensation.

It does not say what the technical problem was, but ir was only last week that The Planet had the big bang that knocked a lot of servers out.

Just goes to show, it does not matter how big you are, servers do suffer problems now and again.

I've never done my grocery shop online but have considered it a couple of times. I even went on to Asda's online shop to see if all the items which are regularly in my shopping basket are available online - unfortunately they fell at the first hurdle. The cheap wet dog food I usually buy isn't on the online store. Next cheapest ws 20p more per can - mounts up when I buy 7 cans a week.

Will continue to get trolley rage in the suprmarket to save myself a few pennies.

I have tried just about every online groceries and Ocado is still the best around despite being one of the first. Apart of a couple of late deliveries or inappropriate "replecements" which you can refuse.

They are a bit expensive, but at least all products are delivered fresh as they have dedicated warehouses. I have had some really bad experience with Tesco and Sainsbury's who normally deliver food from the local shops which almost outdated - generally speaking anything that they couldn't sell off the shelf.

I agree Ocado are about the best, but as we now live out 'in the sticks' it's only Tesco and Sainsbury's that will deliver. Shame that Sainsbury's had technical problems, but then, don't we all at some time?!

Our local veg delivery has an online system, but it's still much easier (and nicer) for me to call them up by 'phone!

I hadn't noticed that on the news, but I couldn't get on to do my shop last night. There was a message saying there were technical problems.

I did wonder what the technical problems were!

From what I've read it appeared to be some technical problem with people's delivery addresses not being stored properly. They've insisted it isn't a security related problem (but then again, I guess they would, wouldn't they?)

I take it, this sort of shopping is getting very popular. I didn't realise.

I do my grocery shopping online now and I'm a complete convert, I wouldn't go back. I find it saves me money as well as time as the cost of petrol driving to the supermarket is now more than the delivery charge, and it also stops me adding impulse buys to my trolley which really bump up the total. I don't use Sainsburys though, so no problems here.
