Help,
Have been using Line 50 for ages without any problems, then today it has suddenly stopped responding and wont run. Any suggestions?
I stopped paying for support because i never needed to use it.
Thanks
Niall

Is it quite an old version you are using? Although I wouldnt have thought that would make any difference. I have heard in the past that sometimes if you close the system down by not exiting correctly it can freeze the software. Have you tried restoring to a back up? You might have to re-key some information, but perhaps it might be worth it to get the system working again...

in which case, try the following:

1. Go to the folder c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sage\accounts\2009

2. In that folder will be a file (not folder) called COMPANY

3. Right click on it and open with Notepad

4. It will show a folder - this is where your Sage data is

5. Navigate to that folder within which there will be an ACCDATA folder

6. Go in to the ACCDATA folder and, in there, will be a file called QUEUE.DTA - delete that file and see if you can then get in to Sage.

The instructions (which came from a post on sageforum.co.uk of which I am a moderator) below will allow you to do a full uninstall and reinstall. You should only do this if you don't have Sage Payroll installed as well.

Before you start make sure you take a copy of the ACCDATA and MEMO folders and, if you have any amended layouts, you may also want to copy the REPORTS and LAYOUTS folders too.

First of all use add/remove programs to remove any installed versions

The delete these folders;

Sage program folder
C:\program files\sage

common files
C:\program files\common files\anything to do with sage

data directory (Windows XP)
c:\documents and settings\all users\aplication data\sage

Then delete all shortcut icons from desktop, start menu, anything else obvious you can see

Then open C:\windows\system32

In here view file details, add the column for 'Company' and sort alphabetically, delete all files where company is;

Sage
Sage UK
Sage PLC
Sage 50
(You get the idea - use common sense)

That should remove almost everything, anything else in registry, ODBC drivers etc would be OK to leave, they wouldnt stop program from opening

When re-installing program, use CD, run a custom installation to a brand new location, such as;
C:\sagev2011

Make sure installer finished with no issues.

Open program using the new shortcut icon you should have on desktop

If you have further issues, you may have to un-install & re-install MS .NET framework 2.0
Or, download a Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility, but try all above first.

Other forum users have reported that this did solve the problem but, as it involves manually deleting files/directories, you follow it entirely at your own risk.

Not without SageCover they won't...

No but you could try taking out SageCover & then ringing them?

Or, alternatively Support site seems to suggest may simply be a bug in the software which has been resolved in later updates - Niallmonaghan have you checked if there's any uninstalled updates for your version?

So you're aware - Johndon68 is highly thought of on here & I know he's helped solve quite a few people's problems with Sage :)
