Sage Compatability

I am currently working for a client who has Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2011 which was installed by a previous bookkeeper. When she left she kept the discs and is no longer working for the company. I am concerned that if the laptop goes bang that I won't have the discs to reinstall if required. I do take backups regularly of the data so that won't be an issue but my question is this:

If the company buy Sage Instant Accounts (for example) can I take a back up from the current system and load it onto the Instant version even though it is a more basic Sage?

The same applies for their Payroll as well. It is currently on Sage Payroll Professional 2011.

Many thanks in advance.

You could restore a backup from Sage 50 v2011 into Instant v2011 with no problems as far as the Payroll is concerned, it's not my strong point but I don't think you can go go from 50 to Instant.

With regards to the disks, you don't really need them as full installations of the software can be downloaded from www.sage.co.uk/updates - you do need a Sage login but, as long as the software has been registered with Sage, you can create a login.

Thanks for the help John. The payroll is not such an issue to be honest as it has only been used for 5 months and there are only 6 employees so not a big deal to recreate the information if needs be.

As for the Accounts, I am not sure that the copy on the system is a legitimate copy as she provided the discs then took them with her so I cannot verify.
