Running a Facebook competition

Hi there,

I am wanting to run a Facebook competition to help increase my page likes/interaction.

Am I allowed to ask people "Like my page, share the competition and post a comment to a question" to enter?

I've found this similar idea on a competition listing website:

"Want to win a video/PC game of your choice up to the value of £45? All you need to do is like the XX Facebook page, share the competition post and take a fun personality quiz. Or you can do the same via Twitter. "

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

See https://www.facebook.com/policies/pages_groups_events/#

"Promotions may be administered on Pages, groups, events or within apps on Facebook. Personal timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions (e.g. "share on your timeline to enter" or "share on your friend's timeline to get additional entries" and "tag your friends in this post to enter" are not permitted). "

Therefore, no - you are not allowed to make it a condition that entrants share on their (or anybody else's) timeline.

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply in information.

If I am correct, I can run a competition in which users must leave a comment on a post to enter? I am thinking of running a competition in which entrants need to give a name to a mascot.

In my experience you will be giving away a prize to an experienced 'Comper' with this tactic, people have a 2nd Facebook profile and all they do is share posts and tag other compers, as opposed to me liking and sharing a post.

I specifically avoid all competitions that ask you to tag people / comment. This is my personal preference.

The point of competitions are to promote your brand and attract viable customers.

If you are only running the comp to promote your brand, this will only be highlighted for the duration of your campaign and you may well be quickly forgotten about once the prize has been awarded.

Facebook page likes are irrelevant in my eyes, I'd rather have 100 people liking my page that are interested in what I've got to say as opposed to 1,000 that liked my page just to enter the competition.

What's the value of the prize may I ask?

I wrote a case study on How To Run A Competition on Twitter and Facebook last year if this helps your timeline of planning.

    Good luck!
