Rufused VAT receipt?

Hello,

I wonder if someone can offer me some assistance.

I have a 3 broadband dongle I use for business that I use PAYG.

I've requested a VAT receipt and they've told me they don't offer VAT receipts or itemised billing for PAYG customers and they can't even give me a basic receipt only an acknowledgement of receiving funds and only if I write to them with a copy of bank statement etc.

They've told me the only way I can get a VAT receipt is to sign up for a business contract, but I only use the thing when I'm away and just wanted to recoup my expenses.

I always thought it was a legal requirement to supply a VAT receipt on request is this correct?

Thanks in advance
Antony

Hi did you ever get anything resolved with this, as i have the same problem. I have a PAYG mobile and top up with my registered debit card, so there was never any paperwork or receipts.

I called Vodafone customer services to ask for receipts or a statement of some form, and they told me to bugger off in nice words.

Its starting to really drive me mad to be honest.

    Hi Kirsty

Great to have someone on here from a major supplier.

Maybe you could explain to us why Vodaphone does not follow the HMRC guidance in the link I have given.

It is always good to understand what the issue may be or why the rules do not apply.

    Thanks

Thanks Kirsty, i have just sent this through the contact form, 2 mins ago.

    Hi
I have been asked by Kirsty at the Web Relations Team, to send you a message with regards to this forum thread
    http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=968359#post968359

I have been topping my phone up with my attached debit card, and now i need the receipts for those transactions as far back as April 2005 for my accounts.

But i have been told by customer services that this is not possible.

But as it is a VAT transaction, it is a requirement under Regulation 13 of the VAT Regulations 1995 (Statutory Instrument 1995/2518), which are issued under power of Para 2 of Schedule 11 of the VAT Act 1994.

    Many thanks
    Ian

before I started up my company with my partner, we bought a couple of Pcs for the business, but didn't know anything about VAT receipts. We didn't even think to check the receipts untl after we set up our book-keeping software. Then I realised that PC world don't give out VAT receipts in their shops !

Reading up about it, I realised that their is a 30 day time limit to request a VAT receipt. I phoned the PC world customer support who said they would look into it and send a receipt in the post - but nothing ever turned up. I believe I have gone over he 30 day deadline now.

It taught me a lesson - I now also check about VAT receipts at time of purchase

    Hi there

da8iwr - I'm so sorry! I just noticed that I've missed part of the code for your email to route to me! The code is WRT135.

Don't worry though - if you let me know the reference number you got then I'll be able to search for you with that or if you message me with your email address. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

elainec100 - Thanks so much for the welcome - it's really appreciated.

We are obliged to offer a VAT receipt when requested. There is a process already in place for how this is done.

On this occasion, as it is a rare query with Pay As You Go, it seems that the advisor was unaware of this procedure.

I have fed this back to the business to improve training in this area so that this doens't happen.

I'm glad I could clear this up.

    Thanks

    Hi Kirsty
    Receipts for phone topups [#1031175]
    That's my ticket details :).

Yesterday, i was in the Vodafone store, as when I added a future pack, it went on as normal credit, so i asked the staff to help me. It turns out that over night my tariff doesn't accept future packs anymore so i had to swap tariffs.

Whilst there i asked just out of curiosity if i can get receipts for my accounts and tax purposes, the reply was.

"Vodafone don't give receipts, if you want a receipt, the only way we can do this is by you being on a contract so you have a printed statement each month."

That was after i had to wait for 8 mins whilst she was on the phone to her boyfriend about what food they were going to have... and I'm not exaggerating.

The only reason she came off the phone is because i started to raise my voice, which is when the manager came out from the back. At which point i pointed out the shopping list she had wrote down on the back of a leaflet... he then passed me over to somebody else and she walked off saying "some people" under her voice.

So maybe the receipt request is not quite as rare as you think, its probably more the fact that customers are being told point blank by your customer service they cant have it, so the request information is not filtered back up to to the people who need to hear this.

I think that the training you mentioned is long overdue in many places of your business as i know if any of my staff conducted themselves in the way yours do, they would be at the end of a very long dole queue.

But I do thank you for your help as you appear to be one of the only people in your company who has actually tried to help me. But maybe that is because we are on a public forum and it is in the interest of Vodafone to make the customer service appear to be good.
Hence the job title "Web Relations Team"
    Ian

    Hi Michelle
I have had the same problem with PC World, they usually ask you if you want a VAT receipt when paying but then start asking for address details etc. I asked will you be sending me junk mail if i give you it, he said no, its just for the tax records. So i gave him it. 5 days later i received a catalogue and every month or so i get latest offers from PC World. I don't mind as much i just wish they told the truth.

Also this is the response i got the next day from my ticket to Vodafone

    Hello Ian,

I understand from your email that you need the VAT receipts for your Pay As You Talk mobile phone.

I have forwarded your request to the relevant department, please be informed that it would take 7 to 10 working days for you to receive the VAT details.

I trust the above email is of help.

    Kind regards,

    Sonal Goraksha

Not sure how they will send me them mind you, as i don't know if they have my address, but they do have my email so hopefully they will send it that way :).

I have no idea, but i know it is a legal requirement if somebody charges VAT, for them to pass over the VAT number. Its taxivation if they refuse, which means they get a seriously sore bottom (in prison).

I don't think that is the case :( I have received conflicting information from HMRC and on the boards. HMRC told me on one occasion they will take the details but they won't 'follow it up' (basically just give them a nudge)

One another occasion HMRC told me its a 'civil' matter and if they really won't give me the vat receipts then I should take them to court.

I don't know what to believe.

    Hi Ian

Thanks for coming back to me.

I have found your email and replied.

The receipts would go to the address you registered for your number.

I'm glad that I could help you with this.

    Thanks
