I am getting to the stage were I now need to really sort out the postage on my site. Am I right in thinking that if you do over £xxx a week you can get a discount or arranged prices? Is this done on a prepay basis and would I still need to goto the post office?
Is it also a similar priniciple for couriers? Would I be able to arrange a special price or deal with a major courier or am I better still using parcels to go to arrange couriers.

Any help or advice would be great.

Thankyou

It really depends on what you are posting and where. I use the Royal Mail. The vast majority of my post is under 1 Kg, and UK. You simply cannot beat the Royal Mail on price for this. I pay £1.37 per parcel.

If you are likely to send over 5000 parcels a year, or spend over £15,000 a year, then you can get a PPI account. This means you can send using their packet post service and they will come and PICK UP your mail. No queues at post offices, no driving to post office. You get a credit account and pay monthly in arrears by direct debit.

Depending on your area you MAY be able to get away with PREDICTING 5000 parcels a year and so long as you do a fair amount of posting and are on a convenient route, they will not bother to check/count the annual total.

Thankyou for the information. I am not far from the post office, pretty much a 2min walk so that aspect dosn't bother me. I was just curious if there was a scheme and if so was I eligable. It looks like I will need to get a few more orders per day and a larger annual spend to be able to qualify for the service.

When I reach this stage how would I go about starting this scheme? Do I ask inside the PO or ring RM Direct?

    Thanks

HI I AM NEW IN BUSINESS AND WANT TO START SELLING EBAY CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIND CHEAPER POSTAGE OR COURIER ,DO U THINK ROYALMAIL IS GOOD OR FRENKLINE MACHINE?
Depends on what you are posting regarding size and cost. For most small items Royal Mail is the cheapest and best. You do not have to send 5000 parcels a year or spend £15k to open an account (its £5k but £15k for free collection of post). We found a franking machine is very expensive once you include all the extra bits (ink, labels, top-up credit charge etc.) and be very careful of their dodgy contracts.
