Royal Mail changing 'Small Parcel' dimensions

I'm sure many of you already know this, but a heads up for those who don't - the dimensions for a Small Parcel with RM are to be increased (although no definite date set yet, it should be soon according to my local PO).

Where it is currently 450mm x 350mm x 80mm, they are increasing the 80mm to 160mm. Good for us, as a couple of the items we send out are just over the 80mm and the difference in price between Small Parcel and Medium Parcel is ridiculous (£3.75 and £5.90 by 1st Signed For Franked Mail), so I'm sure the customers will appreciate the reduction in p&p

Thanks for this. It is probably worthwhile to point out that it is not just the 80mm dim that is getting bigger but the dims in the other directions are getting smaller. It is changing from 450X350X80mm to 350X250X160mm. See:

Sorry should have said that it is EITHER less than 450X350X80mm OR less than 350X250X160mm. The old dims have not disappeared. It is just that a new one has been introduced it would appear.

This is great news, I am always sending things just over 80mm which like you say, has a crazy price increase.

I've been using myhermes recently but might switch back again now!

That's good news. Have been caught out a few times when sending our larger items of clothing when they just slip in to the medium parcel range usually due to the thickness issues. Reluctant to swap from RM due to so many poor reviews of the alternative cheaper couriers so this will help.

I started using 'MyHermes' for my small enterprise when RM increased prices. However, my experience with that outfit was virtually zero customer service, ignoring polite emails, not acknowledging bona fide claims and failure to collect parcels on appointed days. I didn't know at the outset but have subsequently found numerous online complaints about them. One to avoid imo.

Needless to say, I've reverted to RM - and fortunately prices have dropped for some package sizes.
