Hi all,

I am looking to move up within my company and the oppurtunity has arrisen where by I need to "prove my abilities" in order to progress. I am looking to move from customer care into "on the road sales".

Part of this task is to perform several tasks one of these being a "Root and Branch Analysis".

In having a quick look around, there is not much information on what this is. So I thought I would ask some people in business about what specificall this is? I also think that being on here could help me in my own personal business as well and so I am sure I will have more questions in the future.

thanks all

My understanding is that root and branch simply implies that you will look at something in its entirety, or from the bottom up.

Its just another example of silly 'management speak' probably made up by someone who wanted to feel more important than they actually are.

Hi Bowsa and welcome

I think it just means that you need to 'take an in-depth, critical look' at something. Maybe an area of the business or personal/professional development needs perhaps? What does the task brief say?

Basically I thought this to be the case purely on the task breifing: -

-------------------------------------------
The key points to focus on are: -
-How bespoke the solution looks.
-Functionality.
-Products on offer vs our range (and therefore those that are not).
-Prices for the key products.
-The shopper journey.
-Software vs off-line.

produce a presentation that would be jointly presented at a meeting

The intention is to highlight where we have competitive advantage, but also where we need to develop.
-------------------------------------------

Although I wanted to make sure that I was not missing anything out on this, as I say this is where I want to go as a career move and so I am taking a very precautious approach in terms of getting this right.

Any advice people who have done this in their own industry would be great :)

I am currently looking at: -

-identifying our main competitors

-whether they have on/offline software

--trying there sites
---comparing the software to ours and its pro's and con's
---ease of use
---funtionality

--trying software
---comparing the software to ours and its pro's and con's
---ease of use
---funtionality

-looking at products and quality
--comparing this against our products and price differences
-comparing offers running against ours and why this may be the case (maybe due to increasing traffic on site or possibly to push a product that doesnt sell as well at this time of year?

-How well I felt there systems ran in comparison to ours

any other tips / ideas on this would be great :)

thanks
