So I want to retrain and do a diploma 2 days a week in another area that I love with the view to set up another business. Can use my background in design, but use a different medium. Currently it is just me at the business, I used to have numerous employees but the industry has been in steady decline.
I would still like to keep the business running as it still generates a profit and salary and I have stock.
95% of my business is b2b on my trade website. I have a retail website that generates maybe a few grand a year sales. I am thinking of closing the retail site, concentrating on the trade relationships and using amazon as well to list the whole range. In the past I have closed the retail site to concentrate on b2b but the high margins tempted me back. I am thinking with studies it will be difficult to juggle and the result will be poor customer service and I will fall behind on admin.
I would like work on the current business 3 days a week. There are other businesses in my industry that are open 4 days a week. The other 2 days of the week would be study and setting up the new business
As a single parent it is super important to keep that balance of work and home life and I think having specific days for the different business/ study will help. I know I need to keep moving forward and go with the retraining while my current business is still making some money. I would prefer to have different days for the different business as I am not too good at multi tasking/ time management and easily distracted. I can see myself if trying to wear all the hats at the same time I will not be setting myself up for success. I would mail out my trade customers advising them of the new trading hours, hopefully they will not be too inconvenienced by this.
Has anyone been in this position before? Any advice or views would be great.
Would you close the retail site for simplicity? My neighbour at work who has a massive business closed his retail site and now just uses amazon fba and vendor.
