Hi,

I am looking to getting some retail packaging (essentially a shelf ready branded box) designed and produced for some products that I am importing. I am feeling a little bit out of depth about where to start i.e. do I get the box designed by a freelancer and use a packaging print company for the print aspect. I do not know what are the sort of things retailers look for when it comes to branded packaging. Can someone please shed some light on this for me?

Many thanks.

Hi, I would say you have the semi-manual route or the complete professional route.

Pro Route - Professional Print House/Design - There are many design agencies that do this kind of work, here you will just be asked for the size/dimensions and support requirements along with any brand pointers or guidelines and they can come up with options for you based on budget. Here the company would take care of all of it but obviously at a cost.

Semi-Manual - Freelancer - So here you would make most of the choices yourself and possibly source the packaging templates (before print/graphics) that you can then give to a freelancer who can supply you the designs. It would be then up to you to find a good packaging solution (e.g. progresspackaging google search) to then pass the details and assets on.

Just my thoughts since there were no replies :)
