Resizing a logo

Hi,

Does anyone know how to re-size a logo please?

I have had a new logo created and it is fine on letterheads/flyers etc. At the moment it looks to big/unusual when place underneath an e-mail signature.

I just wondered if it could be re-sized so that it appears to the left hand side of an e-mail. i.e. under my current e-mail signature.

What file formats do you have of the logo that you are trying to resize?
And also what programme are you using to resize it?

How to re-size an image will be different depending on what software you are using.

If it is an email signature, it is a built in WYSIWYG editor, can you use HTML or is Microsoft software? All answers will be different depending on what you're using.

Thanks for the replies both. As you can tell this is out of my comfort zone.

The image is a png.
I would be using/trying to use HTML using Mailchimp.

Do you have the logo in any other file formats? If you resize a .png, there's a potential for it to lose some of its clarity.

Either way, if you want it done well then send it to someone who has photoshop and they'll resize it for you to the dimensions (usually in pixels) that you'd like. You'll just have to re-upload the image and that's it, you can use it how you'd like.

The one bit that is confusing me about your request is this: "I just wondered if it could be re-sized so that it appears to the left hand side of an e-mail. i.e. under my current e-mail signature." - Positioning does not have anything, normally, to do with resizing, unless the image is large enough to take up not just the left-hand size? Unless you need re-positioning as well.

@AutumnFireflyDesign hit the nail on the head, the best way to re size it would be through Photoshop, you can download a 1 month free trial of Photoshop or if you know anyone with it you can pass it to them and they can re size it in seconds.

It's worthwhile asking whoever designed your logo to supply you with it in vector format (always ask for this in future). Alternatively you may have to fork out and pay for it to be re-made in a vector file format so you can scale it up or down to any size without losing quality.

What Paul said. Failing that go to one of the websites where people will fix these things for £5 or $5. Your time is better spent on other things.

Hi Rob,

Is there anyway that we would be able to see this logo as I am a graphic designer and depending on how intricate it is I could do it for you.

P.S using adobe photoshop will not solve the problem as it still will leave logos pixelated when enlarged. Use adobe illustrator which is a vector based program, therefore you can enlarge it as big as you want

I use Pixlr Express a lot of the time to make quick changes to PNG files. It's a free web based editor with capability for multiple layers etc and should be fairly easy for you to resize an image.

There are loads of free programs like Gimp to resize images but, even though I have photoshop, I go to Fiverr and get someone to do it for me for $5 (£3.15) as my to-do list is always very long

if you got html code where is your image - <img src="here is link.jpg" width="150px" height="auto"> or whatever pixel look alright or set width="auto" and height="XXpx"

This is bad practice. A photo manipulation program should be used really.

Sometimes I use Pixlr express (in browser photo editing) Seems good for small jobs. Slows up (understandably) with multiple layers.

Adobe Photoshop is now available online for free as Photoshop Express Editor, I can't post link as new, but a quick search will get you there! Resize is second option in LHS window pane...

if the vector file is in a format such as : eps ,svg, psd , you are very likely to need a software such as illustrator or photoshop . these software will allow you resize your logo and also to edit it if you wish to modify a colour or text and so on .
if it is in a format such as ; png , jpeg, jpg many free software will do this for you , or you can try to do it online .
