reseller online backup program

I'm currently using a combanation of different ressellers to source online backups for my clients. I'm looking for a good single reliable provider that charges per use, I don't want to use a reseller of backup provider.

Idealy I would want to have my own branding used and have acess to software to conduct the backups. My clients range from home users, small businesses and businesses with large servers.

I will also need to be able to provide support for iphone, iPad and all Apple Mac systems.

Does anyone here provide a servce that fits the bill? Or where would I find such? I have spent months search and can't find any that are independant and reliable and don't charge a huge setup fee.

So when you have developed it it will be able to backup desktop PC's, laptops ect?

I have been looking at Livedrive, but I don't know if they provide software.

I was hoping for someone rather independent to work closely with.

Hi Adam

My company provides hosted network services, one of which is online backup. We have the service up and running, and can simply deploy the backup clients to selected machines (PC/MAC).

You can completely white label the service, and if needed we can talk the client through the setup/setup the service remotely on behalf of your company.

As for iPad/iPhone support, we haven't found a reliable backup client for these devices, however we would simply suggest backing these devices up to the local machines as usual; the backup client could then backup the local desktops and servers to the hosted backup location.

If you would like to have a chat about what we could provide, you can reach me on 01733 359 115.

Thanks

Hello Adam,

This is exactly what we do - please PM me for more information. We provide online backup services for SME's and focus on desktop/laptops as well as servers. We do online backups from 1Gb up to many Tb of data. Google "Backupvault" for the website.

We run our own storage servers - and are not resellers of any other service either.

Thanks,

Hi Adam.

Can I ask why you are looking for a one solution fit all? The different markets that you deal with (Home, Small Business and Larger Server) all have different requirements.

For example backing up a larger server, that may be running databases with open files requires more sophisticated software than a home user.

Regarding having access to the software. A good online backup solution should be full automated so you don't need access to run a backup. If you want to check that backup have been run, you should be able to get access to the online web based portal to see a backup log.

What are you backing up on an iphone?

Regards

Yes I am fully aware of different requirements, but there are plenty of trusted service providers that can happily help with all and accommodate our needs.... its just finding them.

Why do I want to have a the same company doing both? well we have been outsourcing backups to several different companies for the past two years and some are great others are a nightmare, I want them all with the same for support and admin reasons.

When I say I want access to the software I meant I want the provider we choose to provide backup software, I don't want to have to buy that separately.

Most people would want backups of address book, emails, notes calendar ect on the iPhone and iPad.

Thanks for the additional info. I will PM you tomorrow with some information on the services with offer our members. I run a company called CloudTribe. We help IT support companies deliver "cloud" based solutions to their clients. We have a number of backup solutions that will meet your requirements.

Ok here's the thing. "cloud based solutions" are what exactly?

Define the cloud.

That is a great questions! We could have a great in depth discussion about what makes "pure" cloud computing and the technology behind this.

However we have looked at the term "cloud based solutions" from how a typical SME understands it. From this respects it means IT solutions that are not primarily run on in-house hardware but accessed and used across the Internet.

Our portfolio includes Hosted Exchange, Hosted Email Archive, PC and Server Back up, Online File Server, Hosted VoIP, Disaster Recovery and Virtual Servers.

So basically it's a datacentre isn't it?

Kinda. Companies provide managed services and maintain/upgrade the equipment. Due to different licencing agreements with companies such as Microsoft, software can be provided on a usage basis (Software as a Service). Many companies look to add elements of cloud services on to existing business networks to add resilience/flexibility/reduce licencing costs/hardware costs etc. It's worth looking at cloud as an option to local networks when addressing your IT network, as in some situations they can be a better option; however, in some cases cloud isn't the way to go.

haha i know mate dont worry
but if you tried to explain hosted datacentre based network services complimented with usage based software services then the end customer would fall over with confusion. Cloud has been a blessing and a curse; some of the people I speak to think im talking about sharing photos online, others understand what cloud really means. the truth is, its about as vague as "IT".

:) Spot on !!

Too many technology companies fail to see IT from the eyes of their clients. Small SMEs (with 1 - 20 employees) want solutions.

For Example -
An SME wants to be able to send and receive email anywhere, without spam from any device. For £7 per a month Hosted Exchange gives them them this
They want to back up their data - £20 pm for online back-up solution.
Share Files from anywhere - £40 pm gives them a file share solution.

All of the above solve business problems. They don't really care about data centres or the technology behind it. They just want solutions for their business needs for a reasonable price.

Andy why would it be the obvious choice when an iPad is currently as secure in a business environment as a teabag?

Because the majority of users will not know any different. When you fire up the device it will ask for an Apple ID and just do it all for you. I canot see many users opting for something different that might not be as well integrated.

A tea bag is also very secure. You won't find many spreadsheets in a tea bag :D

Also think as ipads and iphones as devices just to access files / applications. Then they don't need backing up as the files are stored elsewhere.

For example if a business is using hosted exchange - then data can be restored from the exchange server if lost from the device. Use a file sharing solution that allows files to be accessed on a iphone / ipad as well as PC.

the only thing you have to worry about with iCloud is things such as Data Protection Act and the Patriot Act over in the US. If you dont want the UG Gov't to have a snoop through your information if they feel the need, its probably best to look at alternatives. Highly unlikely they would (depending on what sort of business you are in) but still!

I recommend backing up to local machines via itunes and then backing up your entire machine to an offsite server. probably the most secure way of doing these things.
