Reseller hosting - any suggestions?

Until July last year we used 1and1 for hosting our clients websites; however, with no reseller package available, it became too expensive and we found their billing too complicated to tie into our own invoicing. We therefore changed to a Webfusion reseller package with a view we could actually make a profit margin on our hosting. The problem is their uptime doesn't seem, very reliable. Our biggest client is constantly having problems with emails.

Does anyone have 'good news' stories about Webfusion or alternatively can anyone recommend any other reseller hosting packages that have a reliable service? One of the issues with webfusion is the 10mb file size limit to be sent/received on emails.

I look forward to any advice and views.

Many thanks

I use Xilo. www.xilo.net. I have a reseller hosting package with them to host all my domains. They also handled the transfer for me from a previous hoster based in the US. Xilo are based in the UK and are a UK registered company. Been with them for over 5 years. Good support as well, can telephone them if really urgent

    I recommend NetwiseHosting - http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/member.php?u=51650
... They have a great dedicated server package.
    WOW, just £39 a month.
Wait a minute. Take a look at the details here.

Add on all the extras and the monthly cost quadruples, and don't forget to add some SUPPORT costs at wait for it:
    £100 per HOUR!

If you had only one hour of support each month it would make this an expensive service. If you had even a minor issue the time taken can run in to several hours...

Take care, read the small print before buying

    Hi Andrew,

As you'll know, Reseller Hosting isn't a "one-size" fits all service. To recommend a solution it's first worth knowing a bit more about how your clients use your services and what plans you have for your new reseller plan. This way you won't need to change again soon.

If you asked me for advice I would ask....

What email size do you need to send?

Our SMTP servers and our cloud-edition Ecenica Webmail 2.0, let you send and receive emails up to 25 megabytes (MB) in size. The industry-standard. See Email Limits to learn more.

Are you looking for a budget host, or something more select and professional?

Do your clients require Windows and/or Linux.

Do your require UK web hosting?

Any preference to control panel? if not, we highly recommend the award-winning cPanel. Again, standard on our web hosting plans and other good hosts.

Another option is to have a host build you a bespoke solution on your own VPS or dedicated server. Costs are normally very reasonable to a shared reseller account.

Feel free to contact me via this forum or website if you have any questions regarding Windows/Linux reseller plans, including tailored hosting solutions.

    Cheers

    Rich.

    Thanks Terry :)

Seiretto - you're quoting their remote hands fee for which £50/hr is perfectly reasonable (some DCs charge considerably more) and not something you usually need (and something you wouldn't need at all if you took their management option presumably, except for items such as upgrades which require hands-on tech time but yes that would need clarifying)

Andrew - feel free to take a look around our site and contact me/us with any questions! E-mail size is something I know isn't on the site but 10Mb certainly isn't a problem - the largest e-mail we had a client send that I know of was around 250Mb! Offhand ~100Mb is the default :)

    Dave,

Thank you for publishing this information before reading or establishing the facts.

We are a Unmanged UK Dedicated Server supplier - that doesn't mean we charge for every support issue, but it does mean we are not responsible for configuring customers units past the operating system and network side - hence our low prices.

We go out of our way, as several UKBF memebers will be able to vouch for, to help and aid customers when needed whether it be control panel advice, resolving cutomer mis-configurations or performing updates for them, to name but a few.

We are not a company that charges for every little extra or requirement and I would appreciate you not bad mouthing my company without any prior justification - you have never used our services and therefore cannot make judgements on what is and what's not included from a support perspective.

I mean the above in the nicest way possible, I am not one to get people's backs up but having built up the company from scratch and in such a competitive market I do not appreciate this sort of unneeded comment.
    All the best,

    Matthew

What makes the post even better is that his company appears to be (I could be wrong of course) a Donhost reseller judging by the IP and control panel (I could write long, boring essays on my own experience with Donhost) and in any case their basic server is more than 4x the cost of Netwise's entry-level server and they're all but comparable save for 80Gb versus 250Gb hard disks.

People in this industry can be so short-sighted (he could have simply talked about his own services rather than ignorantly bash someone else's) and unprofessional at times :(

    Hi seiretto

I have been with Netwise Hosting for 8 months. In that time I have had several issues of my own making. Everytime I contacted their support I have never been billed a penny. I have bought one of their high end servers and in the near future I will be buying more. Their service is reliable, affordable and thier support is 100%.

If anyone is looking for dedicated hosting then I would send them to Netwise Hosting.

I see you operate a hosting company. Looking at your Designer 40 reseller package, which is your top package, you offer only 5600Mb and Netwise Hosting offers 80GB, you offer upto 400 websites and Netwise Hosting Offers unlimited, with your package the customer receives 96Gb of bandwidth and Netwise hosting is unlimited and finally the cost of your package is £489 per year when Netwise Hosting cost £468.

THE BOTTOM LINE. If someone was to use your top package and they had 300 clients on their package, the 96GB bandwidth would soon get used up. Plus with a good site with Mysql, flash etc can take up on average 50mb of spcae which means you would only get around 112 websites on your service and not the 400 which comes with your package. I noticed that your costs are £1.00 for every extra 100mb of webspace and £1 for every 1,000Mb of bandwidth which are payable 12 months in advance. So if someone wanted an extra GB of webspace this will cost a whopping £120.00 per year. For an extra 10GB of bandwidth will cost £120.00 per year.

You Said: "Take care, read the small print before buying". I agree with you there. I have looked at your small print and to be honest, your package is far less attractive.

In future I suggest before you go around and dis other companies products or service that you should take a look at your products. One last thing to remember, as a reseller, sites hosted are sharing space, resources and bandwidth with other resellers. This could effect your site if the hosting is poorly managed or the hosting compaies resources are limited.

My advice would be to stay well away from xilo.net - you should check out some of the reviews of xilo.net on the web. We had a terrible time with them and they made it as difficult as possible to get away from them - they even charged administration fees to release our domain names back to us, even though we had already paid for them. Read their terms and conditions pages very closely and read the other reviews - I would stay well away from xilo.net if I was you!

godserver - welcome to the forum.

I have had over 5 years with them and like every company they can have their faults. I had one instance where I could not get an answer to an issue and ended up sending Recorded delivery letters to the personal address of the MD, gained from companies house, I have got to say they resolved all issues to my satisfaction.

They have the ability to speak to a human being when you have issues and not hide behind an email only service.

Trust you are now with someone you get on with.

    Thanks for the message.

Having to send snail mail to the MD just to get a response doesn't surprise me - I found that their support staff just didn't want to know and tried to ignore problems or put the responsibility for fixing problems back on to us.

We're with a different host now and haven't had any problems recently - touch wood! My attitude now is to leave well alone.

Like others have mentioned, you'll need to check packages or speak to the company in question to make sure they're a good fit, but I've been happy with Clook over the last couple of years. I find they're good value, have a decent control panel and reseller interface, and they were a great help when migrating from my old reseller.
