Repurposed Branded clothing

Afternoon, am I breaking any rules or laws if I was to cut up branded clothing/fabric and make into something else that is not clothing and resell as that brand?
Eg. A second hand Chanel dress made into a craft item and then resold as Chanel.

Or do I have to use the Ebay trick of using the word 'inspired'?
Can I keep the label to show its a genuine item?

Many thanks

If you cut up clothing and the designer logo or label is showing and offer for resale, you are breaking the law.

Using 'inspired' or any other word, whilst using a logo or label which does not belong to you is illegal.

By removing all logos and labels, you may be on safer ground, but that's not what you want to do, as clearly you see the value of keeping the logo and label In sight.

Don't break the law. Any major brand will sue you.

You would most likely be safe to do everything except the bold.

When you cut up the clothes and make something new it ceases to be a Chanel design/product. It is now your design/manufacture not theirs. If you used the Chanel logo or name in a prominent manner to promote your products/business, without their permission, you would likely be infringing their trademark.

It would probably be legal to use the names in a normal manner, without due prominence. What that means is that it would be OK to state somewhere that "In order to help the environment we take old designer clothes from companies such as Chanel and Gucci and upcycle them into new and exciting designs". You wouldn't be able to use their logo and even adding the name in bold, so that it was more prominent than other text, might lead to problems.

In short you cannot use their name/logo to promote your products.
