Renewing a self-issued server certificate

SBS 2003 R2 – the server certificate expires tomorrow, I’ve used CEICW to renew it, the wizard completed everything fine but nothing seems to have happen as the old certificate with the old date is still present. Do I need to remove the old certificate or will it now renew automatically tomorrow. Is a reboot required? Any thoughts much appreciated.

In that case you probbably want to change the certificate in IIS (assuming you are using ActiveSync), try the following:

1. Right Click 'My Computer', select 'Manage'
2. Expand 'Services and Applications'
3. Click on IIS, Click 'websites' then go to the 'Default Web Site'
4. Right click 'Default Web Site' then click 'Properties'
5. Click on the 'Directory Security' tab, then 'Security Certificate'
6. Choose the 'Replace current certificate', select the new certificate*

*If there is no new certificate the CEICW failed to generate it.

Having said all that you would be much better off with a SSL certificate issued by a public CA so that device automatically accept it rather than you being forced to setup an exception. Prices varying but they are not expensive.
