Regulation + Licenses needed for outbound telesales call centre.

Hello everyone,

I run a new start up company providing insurance + warranties on household electrical goods. Plans are paid for on monthly or yearly premiums. The company operates as an outbound telesales call centre operating in the uk brokering insurance products backed by a larger gereral insurer.

I am in the process of getting my company FSA regulated by way of becoming an appointed representative of a principal firm. I have a meeting with my guy from the FSA on Wednesday and want to at least have the ball rolling and research done on all licenses and insurances i will be needing in order to run the business.

As it stands we have sorted
Employers Liability insurance
Professional Indemnity Insurance

As I understand we will also need a Consumer Credit License if we are to have customers paying on a monthly or quarterly basis. There is also a license needed to do with data protection so I was wandering if anyone could give me any information on this, i.e. what the license is called exactly and why its needed.

We will also need the license allowing us to play music in the office.

Is there anything we have missed that an out that we will need in order to operate an outbound call center?

Any help is hugely appreciated, I can provide additional details if needed. And I will let you know how the meeting goes!

Hi - you can obtain a Consumer Credit Licence from the Office of Fair Trading - www.oft.gov.uk. To process the data that you will be holding on individuals you will need to notify the Information Commission Officer - www.ico.gov.uk and register under the Data Protection Act. To play music in a public place you can obtain a music licence from the Performing Rights Society - www.prsformusic.com.

We can help you with all of the above. Please let me know if this is of interest to you - www.mckennahughes.co.uk.

Best of luck with your meeting!
