Registering a partnership with HMRC

We filled out the online form for registering the partnership on 9/2 and were told online that it would have to be verified. How long does this usually take?

Also when I phoned HMRC they told me to wait to register each partner for self assessment until the partnership was registered. Is this correct?

Presumably the partner that registered the partnership is already registered for self assessment.

No, neither of us have been self employed before. We were informed to register the partnerships existence with HMRC then register the partnership and ourselves as 2 individuals for self assessment. Is this wrong?

Reading the current HMRC info on registering a partnership I see that you can only register as a partner when the partnership UTR is issued. It doesn't say anything about registering as self employed before that.

I was going on my recollection of previous advice on HMRC's site that isn't available now so I can't categorically say that it was different before.
