Registering a ltd company

Hi everyone,

I have decided to use an accountant which works for quite a large company, I am aware I could get a cheaper accountant but I do feel everything will be done properly with them.

Question is should I register the company myself or shall I get them to do that. They do charge a fee for this and am aware I could probably register the company for £100 less but is their an advantage to getting your accountant to register your company? Is is a lot less hassle/ a lot easier?

Hi, I could say if you are aware the sort company you are after, you can easily register the company yourself. Also there are alot of formation companies out there offering the service of forming a Ltd company and I suspect they might also be cheaper.I hope this helps.

Aren't you contradicting yourself here? One the one hand you're saying your happy to pay more for having it done properly and on the other wondering if you can do it yourself cheaper. What's next? When it comes to register for VAT, are you going to use the "expensive" accountant or are you going to try to do it yourself? How about software - if he recommends Sage, are you going to take advice on here and use Kashflow instead? See what I mean?

I think you have to make a decision whether to use the accountant properly, or if not, what's the point in having them at all. If you're not happy to pay for this "expensive" accountant to do things for you, then surely you'd be best to find a cheaper accountant who you can afford to do it all, rather than spend more than you have to on some things and rely on strangers for advice from a forum for others.

Have you considered the costs of your "expensive" accountant if he has to spend more time to correct and improve things you have taken upon yourself to do without his help. Long term, you need an accountant you can trust but also one you can afford. Unless you have particularly complex or unusual trading, then you'll easily find another accountant from a smaller firm or one man band who is more than capable of dealing with your needs. Lots of smaller firms will incorporate a new company without extra charge or at just nominal charge just to make sure it's right and there's no faffing around afterwards to correct mistakes made.

To add to Philips post have you considered what else your accountant is doing over and above one of the cheap and cheerful online formation agents? Very often accountants will include other services as a bundle as well as setting up the company.
