My role has been put at risk of redundancy. I was not furloughed and have been working throughout this crisis. I have a question regarding self-isolation. Can I be scored less for my absence while following the govenment's rules regarding self isolatiing for x14 days?

What was the reason you were self isolating? If it was that you were sick with Covid-19 or another illness then no.

If you were self isolating because you went off to Spain or a family member tested positive, then that's a tough one. It certainly isn't a protected characteristic.

Hi Mattk, Thank you for your reply. This was near the begining of lockdown before testing was available. My wife was showing some symtoms and I was advised by our company to self -isolate just in case. I'm now being told this may impact on my score when it comes to redundancy selection with others who are at risk. In the end neither of us developed any issues.

Who has told you this may impact your score - and do you have that in writing?

I cannot find any guidance, but I would be amazed if any company would formally use absence due to self-isolation as a criteria. Let's not beat around the bush though, companies "massage" scores in order to make the people they want out redundant.

Staying safe probably won't cause an employer to chop your post but other factors might

If your an asset to the company then they will probably will keep you

Here is a simple formula to work out if you will stay or go

    Am I an
    1) asset
    2)asso

If the answer is 2 then well

I've not received anything formal or in writing at this stage but have it on good authority that if two people score the same in other areas the this will be a factor. I guess the problem is the company will want to avoid a tribunal if others raise the issue of absence. Other than the 14 days my absence record is very good. Is there a legal basis for this anyone? Thanks for your input

You followed the advice of your employer.

The absence is irrelevant to any redundancy decisions.

That's what I'm hoping is the case but cannot find anything online relating to the subject. Ideally I would like to see something in writing from either the government website or from a HR perspective document so I can challenge this if it comes up. Thanks again

I think you are asking the impossible question to answer

Many companies will make people redundant this year and maybe next year, at the end of the day as other indicate they may use any reason to prune the indifferent fruit from the tree and the chance of learning the method used will never be published

I cannot see a company taking your stated 14 day absent on their instruction as a problem but if linked to other absences ?

Hi Chris, Thank you for your reply. I am being advised that the x14 days will appear on my absence record regardless of circumstance and will therefore be included in the scoring. My record is very good with no other days off in the last 12 months. This could be the deal breaker of me staying or going and I am getting concerned that this will be included.
    Thanks
