Reduction of 'casual' hours

I would say that the employee could challenge the employer to do this. Given the regular pattern of work they have been given they are not a casual employee. It depends whether the employee will challenge the plans to reduce the hours. I would recommend that the employer consults and gets agreement then puts them on an employment contract with full terms and conditions.

I assume you are asking this as the employee. You need to respond that you do not accept the proposed reduction in hours and see what they do. If the hours are reduced without your agreement you may be able to take action for an unlawful deduction from wages. What level of reduction are they talking about, and why?
