Hi, as someone who has found it tough to recruit people.

I would be wary of both routes to be honest.

Recruitment companies:
- tend not to give you great quality
- are very time consuming because constantly contacting you
- cost a fortune (but you can usually get them down from 20% to around 10%)

Posting on Job-sites:
- Results in a huge number of CV's
- Most of which will be not right, but all take at least 5 minutes to read through
- Lot's of people do a 'scatter gun' approach, so the ones you like the look of often won't respond
- Very time consuming, very difficult to get right

I would recommend try and go a bit more niche
- local Tech meetups
- tech forums (more close to what you do the better)
- the power of boolean search on Google/Fbook and Linkedin

A good acquaintance of mine had the same dilemma previously and had a lot of success via Indeed. Recruitment agencies can charge a fee anything from 10-30% of a candidate's annual salary, and as another poster said, there is nothing to stop them returning to 'poach' your employee later on down the line.

Other than ethics and a conscience Jeff! I am a Recruitment Consultant of more than 20 years recruiting for London corporates. I totally agree that there are a large number of agencies in the UK who give the industry a bad name which is why I set up for myself last year. My aim is to prove we ARENT all the same so it upsets me when I see posts just completely rubbishing us all benmay100! :(

I have to agree with AnnaLanz.

Using a good recruitment consultant can be well worth the money to expand your business. It depends on whether you are looking for entry level or high earners. Posting on indeed won't necessarily find you the best that you can get as you have to rely on candidates actively looking for work. You also have to think about the time it takes you to sift through many applications ...

If you are concerned about recruiters coming back and poaching after 2 years maybe you should look at making it a business where your employees do not want to leave.
