Hi All,

We are having trouble recruiting sales staff (that old chestnut eh!) My question is does anyone have and good suggestions about where to advertise this role.

We have used the job centre, reed and my job group.

All have produced good employees but recently I only receive pretty poor candidates compared to 12 months ago.

Has anyone got experience with a good one? I'm all ears.

Hi Bill,

We are looking for both salaried (14-15k) lead generators and commission based telesales staff. The telesales staff have a guarantee minimum with uncapped commission. The averages ones make 15-18, good ones in the 20-25 and our best two do over 40k.

Try and get your local newspaper to do a PR article on you and the fact that you are trying to recruit that is cheaper than advertising as it should be free - you could even write your own copy and send it into the newspaper as they are always looking for staff.

See if you can get on your local radio talking about the difficulty of recruiting (rather than doing a sales pitch).

Have an open day and market it really well to get local interest.

Offer a "reward" to existing staff for referrals.

Try Totaljobs, Monster, Jobsite.

Recruiting is in fact not that easy.

But, when you get all your questions, tests and interviews right, you could hit the right employee.

There are a lot of things to consider. You may want to hire someone with the skill or someone with more personality or both. That would depend on the overall goal of the company.

So, I believe there is no definite answer to your question. Searching for more applicants might be the only way. Just test them thoroughly.

Alternatively, this list of the popular job posting sites may help you:
http://www.staff.com/blog/list-of-us-job-posting-sites/

It's a US list. But, since it is a comprehensive one it should be useful.

Best of luck with the recruitment.

I would guess that with the Job Centre these days you'll get more applicants, but that doesn't mean they're all worth hiring.

Other than that, I tend to favour Fish4, Gumtree, Monster and others like that, although of course the Job Centre is free and probably the most popular too...
