Recovering data from a hard drive

I have a hard drive from a defunct laptop that I need to get some data off

I have it hooked up through an adaptor so that it is seen as a USB external drive

I know all the passwords for the user accounts but how can i get access to the data they contain

When I navigate to it and it is saying you don't currently have permission to access this folder

So what should I do ?

You should be able to take control of the folders. Right click, properties, security. Take control and you'll get access to the contents.

I had to do similar the other week. I was using Vista and just added the username I was logged on as to the permissions bit and gave it full access rights. This might help http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...rship-and-grant-permissions-in-windows-vista/
