I'm having some problems with my current VPN provider (ProtonVPN), and I was wondering what people would recommend as an alternative. I have a budget between £5 and £10 a month. It must work well on iOS and macOS.

Based on your last questions on here is M247 networks being blocked. Well that covers about 90% of all VPN providers in reality.

Not sure why hiding your IP would be such a problem. No open ports, a PfSense firewall and VPN tunnels setup on your router would solve any hacking attempts or security concerns.

I use my own router, create VPN tunnel to connect securely to my office resources and all good and fine.

Don't be fooled VPN will hide much of your traces these days. It's meta data tracking and lots of other fancy techniques thats used to protect your privacy if that makes sense. VPN's will very little protect from that.

However if you want to prevent data mining and properly implemented with little to no logging do it yourself.

ProtonVPN is very good. They implemented a new TLS approach which makes it almost impossible to stop but sit on M247

I see. Thank you very much. I could set up a VPN myself, but that would mean I'd have to rent two cheap VPS instances as I'd want the choice between UK and USA. I can get each VPS for $3.50 a month.
I use the Opera GX browser

Just checked where UKBF thinks I am based on my IP and it says Algeria.

If it's just browsing you are trying to hide your IP for, would Opera be good enough?
Alas, I don't want to switch browsers. I usually stick to Safari as it works well across all my devices.

If you are still looking for one, NordVPN has a big Christmas deal on for about 64% off.

Deal link: go.nordvpn.net/SH4pd

You can get the standard monthly for £9.99. Or if you choose to pay for a whole year or two, it is an upfront payment but then works out as being only £3.09 a month. There are other plans too if you want extra, but this is assuming you just want the VPN.

Avast were doing a deal earlier and we purchased the 'Avast One Family' two weeks back for £27.49 + VAT for up to 30 devices. This has VPN functionality though I have not used it so cannot verify the speed etc.

Other options include setting up your own VPN server or purchase a VPN router from amazon, this is a one off cost and comes with VPN functionality, we are considering getting one for business use, and are waiting for the 5G versions to drop in price.
