Recommendations for a graphic designer that understands trademark laws

Hi All,

I'm in the process of launching a start-up business, I have a prelimary design for the sort of logo I want to have but need recommendations of graphic designers who A) Understand UK trademark laws and intellectual property laws, B) Can give me a fairly fast turn around time to complete the project.

You need to make sure your trademark is available and won't give you any problems.
Things to consider:

• Someone else can have the same trademark provided they are not in the same class as you. It can't cause confusion in the market.
• The trademark cannot just describe the product. So 'Apple' is ok as long as they aren't selling apples for example

Come up with some good ideas first (possibly talking to a designer in the process as to how they would look) and then check against the IPO database to see if it is available.

Graphic designers are good at graphic design. If there is any doubt, use a trademark lawyer or at the very least use the IPO's 'Right Start' service, which is an extra £30. You pay 50% on application but then they look at it and tell you if you are likely to get any objections.

Hi thanks for your reply, I do have an intellectual property lawyer who's helping me to conduct preliminary searches and will let me know if I can use the name and logo idea I have. I just need reccomendations for graphic designers at this stage.

I have used a great one for years. He used to be big agency and has worked on big projects - Premiership football teams, the London Olympics, etc. He now has his own business and is very affordable. He has done all my branding, logos, etc and is amazing. Let me know if you want an intro.
