can anyone recommend a good cheap / free software for video screen capture, I think i need to be able to change the sound track track, so iI can use the same video but in different languages. I need it for online video presentations.

Yes you can try Camstudio or you could also try Jing they have a free version and also a cheap less that $20 pro version.

It comes from Techsmith which is the company behind Camtasia ($299:eek:)or fee 30day trial)

I do use Camtasia for our training videos but equally if all I want is a quick video Jing is great. It is limited to 5 mins though which is a downer. Not sure if teh pro version is longer it may be :)

Thanks

There is a free version of scrren capture from MS http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/screencap.aspx - you may have it already. If you just want to edit one video then although I'm no great fan of Sony - their attitude to keeping your data safe is appauling and the quilty control on their hardware is non existant with a f*** you approach when their products fail, Sony Vegas editing software is free for 30 days - and very flexible

The software is for a business site, that writen in silverlight i need to video parts of the silverlight application- so its not for a game jillanne.

im still looking at the software you guys suggested, but if anyone else knows of something then please say.

A few months ago as a part of a £250k tender I had to submit a video demonstration of my system on DVD.

I tried lot sof different products but found the easiest to use was "My Screen Recorder". This is availabel as a free download BUT I think the resulting video had their logo on which you have to pay £35 for an upgrade to remove.

So I bought this and a mic/headset and set off making my 30 minute video. There were plenty of times when I lost myself, coughed, shouted at the kids etc so ended up with 1 hour of video that using Microsfot movie maker I easily edited down to 30mins.

I am no expert in any of this but it all came out well in the end.

PS - I won the tender.

Hello all, this is my first post:

I found this a while back and it is free at Camstudio (dot org)

Below is some of their copy (hope it helps)

"...CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs....."
