So I have a laser printer Lexmark E232 which has lasted me for nearly 12 year!!! I love this printer to bits as its soo economical and the ink lasts for absolutely forever and the print quality is good. Anyway, its starting to play up every day and i need a solid small printer which is economical but fit for purpose, ie just a general admin printer which doesnt drink ink like its going out of fashion!!

Really appreciate any advice, please no sales pms, i wont reply! Discussion here is good enough for my needs... as i dont need anything fancy

The ink lasts forever because its a laser printer....which doesn't use ink.

All inkjet printers use a fair amount of ink. None are significantly worse or better than the rest in my experience.

HP have a wide range of decent everyday printers, their support in the first year is decent, and you can use the HP Instant Ink account to make sure you never run out of ink. Its actually very good.

So you have a great printer but its old and starting to develop problems now.
And you don't want a replacement that is the same.

I have a nice little Brother printer - a couple of thousand orders printed out per toner cartridge and is still working fine after 7 years. Only jams if I try stuffing too much paper into it, a wodge of 30 or 40 sheets is fine.

Nitpicker :)

I bought a cheapish Samsung colour laser printer quite a few years ago which is still going strong.

It's now been superceded by the Samsung SL-C430 Colour Laser Printer which Amazon are selling for £125

It's compact and wireless too

I've got 3 HP Officejet 5230s (long story), but currently using an HP Officejet Pro 8720.
Don't do as much printing as I do scanning....so its more important to me that the scanner is very good.

I've got an HP Officejet 3520 which I only use for scanning. The ink ran out fairly quickly even though I never even printed a single sheet and that's why I use a cheap laser printer for printing as I was fed up with replacing ink for a printer that I hardly ever used

I bought a Brother MFC-J5330, as a stop gap when I was waiting for my other printer arrive from an office location change. Without doubt, it's the best printer I have ever owned. it's very cheap to run, it's happy with the equivalent cartridges from cartridge save, and it can handle A3. It's happy printing on card too, plus does a decent job with photos, and it's network friendly. It was. stupidly cheap. I use it in preference to my Samsung laser as it's cheaper to run, and just as quick. I didn't;t buy it on any recommendation, I just picked it from google search and ordered it.

All these recommendations are fine, but you really should provide more details to get a proper recommendation. For instance how many pages do you print on a daily basis, how many per month. What do you print? Is it simple text or complex images. What quality do you need? A printer for 5 pages a day and 100 a month is completely different to one for 50 pages a day and 1,000 a month.
Other considerations aside look at the lifetime cost. Most printers are cheap to purchase because the ink works out expensive. Some printers (eg. Kyocera) are expensive up front because they are better made and have decent ink/toner costs. Some printers require expensive maintenance (or simply replace) after 10/20 or 30,000 prints due to drums needing replacing or ink reservoirs filling or....

I have also some samsuns SCX MFC device ! Why not just go for it ? What do you say ? It will fit you perfectly, as I judge by my own experience. It have printer, scanner, and copier all in one and cover all my needs and more. It's like 10 years old already, but that doesn't matter.

We use an Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C5710. It's brilliant, scans quickly, we don't find the print costs expensive. The toner last a long time and does all the usual print from iPhone/iPad when required too.

I second Epson workforce printers, been using these for about 3 years now and using 3 in total (office and at home)

I always had problems with HP printers, Epson printers have always been ok for me. Driver support is better than HP as updates come out more often and also support for older operating systems. Ink is generally cheaper and lasts longer.

I am sure HP is ok for most people, I just don't get on with their Printers.
