Regarding Magento Enterprise Edition - its a lot of money and its an ongoing cost. Even for a site with a budget in the tens of thousands I would still consider sticking to the community edition.

The enterprise edition is really aimed at very large enterprise and has the feature set to accomodate the requirements of that kind of business.

I would guess though that people reading this thread would all be totally fine with the community edition which is totally free.

I am reading e-commerce threads and I really don't believe that most of people (especially those without any knowlegde about on-line business, programming or marketing) believe that they would just sit down and open a Webshop in few hours... by using Magento, oscommerce etc. Who has time for sitting and looking for community help? My client is waiting for my response because I didn't know how to... something... and no one can give me response at the forum? And maybe my shop looks like a huge mess on the client computer.. or even doesn't want to open because it's too heavy for that computer. How many client I will loose because community didn't give me any reply in few minutes? One question at the end... why serious companies don't use Magento etc? :)

no offense, but it's not down to the 'community' to do your job for you :)

learn Magento, then sell your services for it, not sell the services for the client to pay you to learn Magento.

This isn't down to Magento.

When you are dealing with a system that isn't bespoke, some things simply arn't possible or are coming in at a later date - if the client wishes to push that along, they can feel free to dump cash into it. Else, if they want a system that does things that Magento or other systems can't do, then they need a bespoke system that will run them into the 10's of thousands.

You can't have it both ways, or your cake and eat it - and if you have any cake, i want some!
