Receiving hotmail via Pop3

Just after the most effective way of receiving email on my phone (iPhone) (POP3 I think).

Currently I use hotmail for my personal stuff (web based only), and then a website email thing for my work, which I can receive through my phone.

What I would like to do is forward my hotmail on to a POP3 email, which then I could receive on my phone. Is this going to work in theory if I purchase a domain (www.example.com) and then have an email ([email protected])?

Secondly, if I want to start using my [email protected], do most website providers have a control panel where I could check my emails through a web browers?

Hope that all makes sense!

Kind regards,

John

ive also tried using outlook connector to get hotmail onto outlook and then syncing it over the air with mobile me on iphone...that doesnt work either...

Hi,

This might be of interest... http://v3.izymail.com . I remember hearing of this problem before and someone mentioned this site. I'm not sure if the service is any good, but might be worth a look.

I read of some security issues with izymail, cant remember where i read them, i think it was the apple forum...

but not sure if the app can be trusted

Yeah, its a intermediary service like it says on the homepage, so they connect to your email address, grab the mail, put it on their servers and dish it out to the smartphone client.

But honestly, if you're using Gmail or Hotmail are you really worried about security!

Here's a search on the Apple Forums - http://discussions.apple.com/search...last90days&userID=&numResults=15&rankBy=10001

Seems a lot of iPhone users are using this service.

Hard to do and no repliable solution. Try using a more sensible email provider. buy your own domain for a couple of quid a year and set up email addresses to your hearts content maybe! Try 1&1 - cheap .co.uk's and free email addresses.

Hotmail used to allow it - my hotmail forwards to my Outlook Express.
However yes, you can't do it any more unless you pay.

I've moved from hotmail to gmail and its far superior.

Wasn't trying to be clever kayak - was just trying to help! But good to hear that you have sorted it now.

I am always amazed that people don't just buy a domain name. You see those painful looking [email protected] type addresses and think...."why oh why"!!!

    Glad it's sorted.

I know you weren't! I was agreeing with you :)

I wanted to do the domain name thing, but I can't forward my hotmail to it, which would effectively mean that I would then have 3 accounts to check for the next 2 years whilst I closed my hotmail down.

Yeah, I can use hotmail and outlook but for any newer accounts it doesn't seem to like it!

As an ipod touch and iphone user I had the same problems trying to use my hotmail account.
Without mucking about with all sorts of software work rounds (which may or may not work) I'd suggest using a googlemail account as your main e-mail account. This allows you to group together most accounts out there (I use 2 gmail, one GMX and one based on my website domain name) all divert into my central gmail account which is set as the main mail account on both touch and iphone.

My hotmail account which doesn't play nicely with pop3 is set as a bookmark on safari along with my work outlook account both of which I can check a couple of times a day as necessary. Not as convenient as push pop3 e-mail but workable and I only need one device to look at everything - some days I don't actually bother with the laptop or pc for e-mail,
