Here's one for the group, trying to wrap my head around Special Category and Criminal Processing.

So - (all truly hypothetical dont worry)

If the police take a DNA sample from a crime scene to help them identify who the potential burglar could be.

Would this mean that we have processing of both Special Category and Criminal Conviction Data?

Technically yes as if they later identify the subject it’s personal data.

That said, the DPA2018 gives exemptions from compliance with the GDPR for law enforcement purposes.
